Adina's POV

Peace and calmness. That's all I feel. Everything is so still. So quite. The rushing river water is now nothing more than a breeze in the wind. The water now lies still, as if it lay silently in a lake. Chirping birds and the smell of flowers fills my senses. I can feel the sun kissing my skin as I lay in stillness. It is as if the sun was only on me. Is this the freedom I was looking for? The happiness and blissfulness? I am dead?

"Adina? Adina!," an angelic voice calls my name. It makes me smile.

"ADINA!," this time is more rushed and urgent. It's Luca's voice. The past events come rushing back to me as I quickly sit up, coughing up some water. Luca sits back, relieved.

"What happened? Where are we?," I ask when I finally manage to catch my breath.

"Oh I don't know. Hell you should know, you're the one who recklessly endangered our lives and likely going to be responsible for our deaths," he replies, voice filled with sarcasm and annoyance.

"Well sorry for saving for life," I counter back, standing up and taking in our surroundings. One thing is for sure, it is beautiful out here.

"I didn't ask to be saved! You should have gone home with your husband and left me be," he yells, standing up and getting in my face, our faces mere inches apart. I look straight into his deep green eyes. The anger in his eyes is so frightening yet filled with pain. Did I cause him pain? I don't think I can handle that thought. He did want to be rid of me and here I am still bothering him.

"I owed you. You saved me, I needed to save you. I just did, for my soul. I wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to you. But I'm sorry. I should have found another way to do so. Maybe pleaded for your mercy or something," I say, mumbling the last part and lowering my gaze. The intensity in his eyes being too much to bear.

He doesn't say anything so I look back up into his eyes, which have now softened.

"Why did you need to save me," he asks in a low tone, this time he lowers his gaze.

At first I don't know how to answer that question. I thought it was because he saved my life, but in that moment of reckless diving, the Croctapus incident disappeared from my mind.

He looks back up into my eyes, waiting for my answer. I look down to my ruined timberlands and reply with the only answer I know, "Well I owed you a life. You did save me from a pretty dangerous Croctapus."

He shakes his head and let's put a short and tiny laugh before saying, "Well considered your debt not paid, because I just saved you again." I frown up at him and he points his head in the direction of the lake that he pulled me out of. Oh well shit. He walks away and towards his backpack that lies near the edge of the lake. How does he even still have that bag.

"Oh and if you must know we are in Noplace," he adds, crouching down and looking into his backpack.

"Yeah I gathered we were in no place when you said you don't know where we are," I said and checked what I still had in my vest. All weapons still in check.

He lets out a laugh and smiles, looking up at me, "No this is called Noplace. It's the outskirts of Central Point. Don't let its beauty fool you. It is inhabitable. We only have about 30 minutes of breathing properly before we start to struggle." He looks up to the sky and sighs deeply before continuing, "The air here has a significantly decreased portion of oxygen, added to it some dangerous chemicals. Our lungs can only filter it out for so long before they sustain damage, which will lead to a slow death for us." He sits flat on the ground, a look of acceptance crosses his face, as he looks out over the lake. "At least, it's not death by the noose. Thanks for that," he mumbles.

I look to the sky and I know what I must do.

"Are you expected home?," I ask, just to make sure what I'm about to suggest is worth something.

He snickers and says, "I am an orphan and unlike you, I'm not married, so no. There is a meet up point I'm suppose to show up at. A place where we suppose to return to, after we played our part in the war, to report to our Chief, but since seen you won the war, I don't know. Perhaps it will just be a survivors meet up now," he says with a defeated look.

I sit next to him and look out over the lake, "Firstly, I'm not married. I'm suppose to get married. A marriage that was arranged at my birth but your war kind of ruined my day. Not that I was looking forward to," I say, mumbling the last part. I can feel his questioning gaze on me. "Second I might have a crazy idea that I will run by you first so as to prevent our previous situations where I just get us into trouble. No thoughts whatsoever," I add with a slight smile as I turn my head to look at him.

"How do you want to kill us now Bird," he asks us in amusement.

I turn my whole body towards him and propose my idea, "Now you might not like it because, you know, of your general hate towards the East, but I propose that I fly us out of here." I shut my eyes waiting for a negative response but it doesn't come. I open my eyes and see him sitting in contemplation.

"You can get us out of here?," he asks to which I nod. "And where do you suppose you are going to fly us to?,"  he asks, raising an eyebrow.

"Umm. Well I can fly you to your meet up point. I think that should count as saving your life. That way we even and then I will return home, back to the East and you don't have to see me ever again. Unless you raid us again," I say with amusement but a sort of sadness envelops me when I think about returning home. I cover the sadness with a smile.

"We will be rid of each other," he states/asks looking down. Probably due to the happiness and relief he must feel thinking about how he doesn't need to save me any longer.

"Deal?" I ask putting out my hand to shake on it, feeling a sense of happiness that I might be the cause that he is happy.

He hesitates for a moment. Perhaps because he has no trust in us Easterners.

"Deal," he says with a low voice, shaking my hand.

"Okay then," I say and stand up, pulling him up as I do.

"Ready?," I ask, as he picks up his bag. He looks at me with concern.

"No need to be scared," I say with a laugh and walk up behind him. My bulletproof vest has retractable harness straps, specifically designed for Flyers to carry adult non-Flyers, for protectors to carry their Royals.

I strap Luca in. He is taller than me so I have to stand on my tip-ties to get the straps over his shoulders.

"Up and away," I say, extend my wings and take off. We lift off the ground and I hear him take a huge breath in. This is going to be fun
