Josie's POV -
I woke up to an empty bed. I grew panicked. Had I just imagined Penelope all over again? I shook my head and turned to the alarm clock on my bedside table. It was 6 pm. I slowly shoved the covers away. I wandered across the room when a mound of covers caught my eye. I edged forward and slowly pulled the covers off of my sister's bed. Lizzie was there sleeping peacefully, but it worried me that she was asleep at this hour. I had barely slept the night before and was completely emotionally and physically exhausted. Lizzie, on the other hand, should have been well-rested and happy. Maybe she had a long day, but that didn't stop me from lightly shaking her awake.
She had to eat something for dinner and to do that she would need to be awake. She let out a small yawn and stretched a bit. Not noticing who it was that woke her up. When she finally saw that I was the one who woke her up she let out a small gasp. We hadn't actually talked since the night of Miss Mystic Falls, nor really seen each other for that matter. She raised an eyebrow at me before slipping out of her bed with her arms crossed in front of her chest. We stared at each other intensely for a moment before Lizzie broke her tough girl act with a deep sigh. She pulled me into a tight hug, and I could feel that she wasn't at her best. Eventually, she pulled away and took a deep breath in.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Penelope," she blurted out. I was slightly taken aback by this since I had almost completely forgotten that Penelope had left at all. That reminded me of what had just occurred a few minutes ago. Where was Penelope? I let the thoughts about her fade once again and focused back on my current conversation.
"I'm sorry that I kissed Hope," I answered a little colder than I intended. Lizzie's eyes widened at that. Not at the tone of my voice, but at the words, I had said.
"Wh-why does that matter?" she quickly stammered. I rolled my eyes with a small smile tugging at my lips.
"You like her don't you?" I said with a soft laugh. Her jaw nearly dropped to the floor when I uttered the words. She didn't know what to say and was suddenly struggling for words. I thought back to my coming out and realized that maybe I should have been a tad gentler with her.
"...Which is totally fine by me, I have a girlfriend anyway, and um if you ever need to talk you know where to find me," I added just to make sure she was feeling comfortable.
"I-I don't like her..." she finally whispered after a momentary pause.
"Like who?" I inquired raising an eyebrow at my twin.
"Like Hope!" She answered slightly flustered.
"Wait you like Hope?" I teased. She finally caught on and gave me a playful glare.
"Yeah I-I think, I might..." she answered after taking another heavy breath. Only gaining confidence in the second half of her statement.
"I actually wanted to talk to you about it," She continued.
"Talk away," I said with a smile.
"Well I think I started developing feelings for her a month or so ago but since Miss Mystic Falls they've gotten a lot stronger and-" she was talking at a rapid pace and surprised me by coming to a rapid halt in the middle of a sentence. "Wait a minute... did you say you have a GIRLFRIEND?"
"Who me?" I answered laughing just a bit.
"Yes, you!" she exclaimed with her signature eye roll, "I bet you wish Penelope could see you now with your new girl!"
"Well, actually Penelope is my girlfrien-" I started off, but was cut off by my sister.
"SHE'S YOUR WHAT?" Lizzie shrieked. "Isn't she in Belgium??"
"She's back, she actually saved me from Landon..." I said suddenly becoming quiet.
"Don't even say that thrift store hobbit's name in this room," She said rolling her eyes from probably the tenth time that day.
We both laughed at that, then talked a bit more, before deciding to head to dinner. When we got there I spotted Penelope getting some food and chatting with some students. I momentarily slipped away from Lizzie to go talk to Penelope. She looked happy, and her infections smile lit up the room. I snuck up behind her and gave her a quick peck on the cheek.
"Boo!" I exclaimed from behind her, making her jump slightly.
"Oh hey, you scared me," she said through chuckles.
"Well, you disappeared!" I rebutted.
"I was hungry," Penelope replied with some bread in her mouth.
I laughed and grabbed some food, finding Lizzie and sitting with her and Penelope. They barely spoke to each other, but Lizzie being Lizzie she, of course, had to somehow insult Penelope, but Penelope shot right back at her earning a playful smack on the arm from me. Lizzie stuck her tongue out at Penelope earning her self a glare and we all burst into laughter. I missed times like those where we would just joke around have fun.
