Mae's POV
After meeting Austin, Edwin, and Zion, I decided to hang out around the prettymuch house for a little while. Maggie and Brandon went out to get a few things and Austin was currently on FaceTime with Ansley. That left Edwin, Nick, Zion, and me.
"Anyone up for a game," I spoke up.
"Such as...," Edwin replied back looking up from his phone.
"How bout a little 2 on 2," Zion suggested.
"Game on. Me and Ed versus Z and Nick." Not going to lie, I was quite the player back in high school. I have countless awards and recognitions hanging on the wall of my bedroom. But what they don't know doesn't hurt.
I was currently dribbling the ball around their make-shift court, allowing my fingers to familiarize themselves with the ball again. My stomach started to get this warm feeling in it, loving the feeling of the ball being back in my hands again.
"Ok, so I'll guard Nick and Edwin you guard Zion," I told the guys as let out a breath of air.
"You sure about that sweetheart? I'm quite the sportsman around here," Nick said as he snatched the ball out of my hands.
Snap out of it, Mae, get your game face on. "Positive, Mr. Sportsman. Show me what you got."
Nick smirked as he tried to do a crossover to get an easy lay-up, but I didn't guard the opposing team's point guard all four years of high school to be tripped up by a simple move. I stuck my hand out and easily retrieved the ball from him. I turned around and saw a look of pure shock on his face. Now's my chance. I made my move and dribbled the ball in between my legs making a run for the basket. I almost made it too. Just before I could shoot the ball Zion came out of no where to block me. I picked up my dribble and passed the ball to Edwin. I relocated and clapped my hands signaling for Edwin to pass the ball back. He did and I caught it, turning my body to shoot. Swish.
"Lucky shot sweetheart," Nick came up to me and wanted a high five, but I smirked as I hollered over my shoulder as I walked past him, "Try to keep up."
Nick chuckled as him and Zion huddled up to make a game plan.

The score was currently 17 to 18. Nick and Zion were up by 1. I wiped a layer of sweat off of my forehead and took a deep breath. I do not lose when it comes to basketball. I set a screen for Edwin and he dribbled to make his way to the basket. I rolled down the other side of the lane and had an opening. Edwin passed me the ball and I went up for a lay-up. The ball went through the net but Nick's hand grabbed my wrist."Pretty sure that's a foul, Nick," I spoke up turning to face him. There were sweat droplets on his bare chest and his gold chain glimmered in the California sun.
"Was it, sweetheart, or did I just want an excuse to touch you?"
I felt myself blush, "Either way, I get a foul shot and that means that me and Edwin are going to win. I don't miss."
I took my stance at the foul line and Nick passed me the ball, "All yours sweetheart."
I took a deep breath and shot the ball, keeping my eye on the net the entire time. Swish. Edwin cheered and came over to give me a high five, "I finally beat Nick! Let's go!"
I chuckled and turned to see Zion and Edwin head back into the house. Zion mumbled something about getting back to air conditioning. I went to pick the ball up from where it lay and felt a body behind mine.
"Good game sweetheart"
"Thanks Nick," I turned around to see him. Our faces were inches apart. He brought his hand up to tuck a piece of hair behind my ear. My breath caught in the back of my throat. He brought his body even closer to mine, if that was even possible. Nick placed his hand under my chin, lifting my head up. I looked into his eyes, melting a little on the inside. He looked down at my lips then back at my eyes.
"Your beautiful, Mae," Nick whispered gently in my ear moving his mouth down to the side of my neck. I felt his lips place a wet kiss and then he removed himself from me completely.
"I've got to shower sweetheart," Nick said with a wink as he walked into the house leaving me all hot and bothered.
Two can play that game.
