Mae's POV
Ring. Ring. Ring.
"Hey this is Nick. I guess I'm busy right now so just leave a message and I'll get back with you."
I groaned.
"Ugh, he didn't answer, Mags."
"Let's just go home. Hopefully he doesn't see us," she said grabbing my wrist and pulling me in the other direction. Seeing that man brought back so many feelings that I wanted to keep buried deep inside me. As I was driving us home, because Maggie doesn't have her license yet, my hands started shaking and my breathing became rapid.
"Hey hey Mae it's ok. It's ok. Just breathe through this ok. You're safe. I'm right here. Do we need to pull over?" Maggie placed her hand gently on top of one of mine. I shook my head no and tried to focus on taking deep breaths. I haven't had a panic attack in so long. My clean record just became dirty.

I dropped Maggie off at her house and then continued to drive to my aunt's place. When I walked inside I heard Nick talking and it sounded like he was in the living room. When I made my presence clear he looked up at me, "oh hey Mae," he looked back to the video game he was currently doused in. So that's why he didn't pick up the damn phone. I rolled my eyes at him and stormed off to the bedroom. I slammed the door and locked it, sinking to the floor and crying.
Moments later I heard a soft knock, "baby? Are you ok?"
I didn't answer him.
"Open up, Mae. Please?"
I wiped the tears from my face and reluctantly stood up, opening the door. I walked to the bathroom before he could say anything though.
"Mae, what's wrong?" Nick followed me.
"I saw him again." It came out so quiet, barely audible.
Nick stood in the doorframe of the bathroom as he leaned against it, "who did you see baby?"
"I saw the man that tried to take advantage of me. He was at the mall."
Nick pulled me into his chest and stroked my hair, "why didn't you call me?"
"I did Nick! You were too busy playing video games to even realize that I needed help!" I said as I stormed past him becoming angry again. I heard Nick take in a sharp breath followed by a groan.
I sat down on the edge of the bed placing my head in my hands. Nick came over to me engulfing my small body with his larger one.
"Princess, I'm so sorry. I must've had my ringtone off. I'm sorry, Mae. I would've beat his ass if I was there." Nick forced me to look at him.
I sighed, "you're forgiven."
He smiled before gently capturing my lips in a kiss. This was so much better than being angry with him. I kissed him back immediately and I felt him smirk.
All too soon he pulled away and said, "oh the things you do to me princess." I smiled as I placed a trail of kisses along his jawline. When I pulled away to look at him, his eyes had become a shade darker. He reached for the hem of my shirt but then pulled his hand back hesitantly.
"We, um, we don't have to, Mae. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable or become upset."
I smiled at him before taking my shirt off and crashing my lips against his again.

"Wow. That was something."I laughed at him, "oh that was definitely something alright but I'm starving now."
Nick sat up and rolled on his side to face me, "how about we go on that date then?"
I nodded quickly as my stomach growled. Nick laughed, "go get ready babe. Casual is fine. I'm taking my girl out tonight."
My heart fluttered at him calling me his girl. I got up to go take a shower and find some decent clothes to wear. After about 45 minutes I was ready and I actually ended up beating Nick done.
When he was finally ready we got in the car and he drove. "Sooo where are we going, Nick?" He smiled and placed his hand on my thigh.
"Its a surprise baby," Nick gave my thigh a light squeeze. I rolled my eyes at him but I was excited nonetheless.

"How did you manage to pull this off, Nick?" I looked around at the scenery breathlessly. After about a 15 minute drive we arrived at an abandoned building. I was a little unsure at first but on the rooftop was a little picnic set up and the view was incredible. There were a few lit candles.Nick's arms wrapped around my waist, "I may have had some help from Brandon."
I smiled, "I love it, Nick. Thank you." I turned and kissed his cheek.
"Well there is something I wanna ask you actually and I wanted it to be kinda special." He paused taking my hands in his and rubbed soothing circles with his thumbs.
I waited.
"Mae, will you be my girlfriend?"
"Fuck yes. I thought you'd never ask."
Nick smiled as he pulled me in to kiss me. This was a feeling I could get used to. I hadn't felt this way in so long. Probably since my mom left actually. And it was a genuine, heart-warming feeling.
I was happy.
