A Reason To Smile

Chapter 16: Demyx

You and Leon keep your eyes on each other, waiting for the other to make a move first. After a moment, Leon gets impatient and swings his Gunblade, releasing a shot of lightning towards you. You swiftly dodge out of the way, and look to see that Leon has already made his way over to you. You put Fate Rebellion in front of you to block the overhead slash he sent at you.

Y/n: That all you got?

Leon: Not even close.

He pushes you back and begins to charge an attack. As you begin to catch your footing, Leon releases his attack and a large ball of fire gets sent towards you.

You jump over the attack and use Aero to create a small burst of wind behind you. As you flew towards him,  you call forth the Axel's memory and in a burst of flames, you throw the newly summoned Chakram at Leon.

Genuinely surprised at the new weapon, he blocks the Chakram and while he was distracted you began your assault. Catching the Chakram as it flew back at you, you slam the Chakram on the ground and a wall of fire shoots out of the ground, and surrounds the both of you.

You attack with an upward slash and send Leon up in the air. Afterwards, you hit him with a thunder spell that sent him back down to you, to which you tried to hit him once again. But after a gunshot was heard, your blade was met with a barrier that surrounded Leon. He spins around in the air and a line of explosions follows suit.

While the two of you are fighting, the girls decided to get to know each other more, quickly becoming friends.

Bobble: So you're saying that your world had access to magic, was more developed in advanced magical technology, but was also overrun with monsters?

Clementine: Yep. Not only that, but the waters receded, allowing us to aquire more land.

Maya: So, people who had different views than Inkopolis went to the land that was revealed and created their own cities.

Julia: One of them was a city called Deling City. Named after the great President Deling himself.

The amount of sarcasm in her voice was obvious.

Emily: It also housed the Galbadian Army.

She shuddered as she mentioned them. A certain former Lieutenant coming to mind.

Clementine: Hey, so who's the cloaked guy?

Bobble: Oh, he's our friend! He's been training Y/n and helping us get to other worlds like this!

Suddenly, Riku's head shot up and he motioned for the girls to get inside. He then turned his attention to you and Leon.

Riku: Alright you two, that's enough! We've got company.

You and Leon quit fighting and looked over to Riku, who's attention was direcred towards another person. You call off your Fire Form and follow Riku's gaze to the new arrival.

Y/n: Demyx.

There, standing in front of them, was the most casual, cowardly, and laziest member of the Organization. Number IX, Demyx, the Melodious Nocturne.

Demyx: Hold up, is that you Y/n? Oh man, how long has it been?!

He seems genuinely glad to see you. Probably because the rare occasions you were let out of your cell you were pretty kind to him.

Y/n: What are you doing here?

Demyx: Oh you know, just waiting for Sora to arrive. But hey, do you know what happened with Roxas?

Y/n: No. I don't.

Demyx: Well... would you like to know? Cause if you do, just look over to Riku over here. He'll tell you everything.

You turn your attention to Riku.

Y/n: What... does he mean by that?

Riku: I... I'll explain later.

Demyx: No, I think he deserves to know now. Have you noticed something about the Organizations names? Take Roxas's name, if you take away the X and rearrange the letters, what name do you get?

You mentally rearrange the letters and your eyes widen at the realization.

Y/n: Sora...

Demyx: That's right! Roxas was Sora's Nobody. And for Sora to return, both a person's Heartless and Nobody needs to be defeated.

Y/n: Riku, is this true?

Riku: Yes, Y/n. I'm sorry, but we needed Sora to come back. If Xemnas was able to completely control Roxas and the Keyblade, then who knows what would have happened?

You begin to look down, seemingly upset.

Y/n: Then in that case Riku... I guess that there is only one more thing left to do.

You summon your Keyblade and Demyx smiles, thinking that he was successful in turning you against Riku. But that smile faded when you looked up at Demyx.

Y/n: We'll just have to try even harder to help Sora! Helping him will in turn, help Roxas!

A bright light appears around you and condensed in your free hand. The light turned black and when it faded, a second Keyblade appeared alongside Fate Rebellion.

Riku: That's... Oblivion. One of Roxas's Keyblades.

Demyx shook his head, and when he spoke it was in an even darker tone.

Demyx: I told them this wouldn't work. This is against my nature, but I was told that if you didn't come back willingly, then I'd have to bring you back by force!

He summoned his weapon, a Sitar and dozens of Nobodies appear behind him.

Leon: I'll deal with the Nobodies, you two handle Demyx.

Riku summons Soul Eater and took his spot next to you.

Demyx: Dance water, dance!

He strums the strings on his weapon and multiple water clones surrounded the two of you. With a nod, you both spin around each other, sending slash after slash of light and dark waves of energy. Hearing a burst of water, you look to see Demyx flying towards you, his Sitar held back and ready to strike. Before he reached you, you jump up and on him, before using his body to jump once more and send a call forth the Thundara spell to destroy the rest of the clones.

Demyx looks behind him, seeing another cloaked figure enter the building the others hid in.
