Fours POV

I think about yesterday and how Tris pretty much rejected me. She used the 'I have to study' phrase. It's clear now that she doesn't like me and I should just let her go. That's the only option I have.

I take a shower and get dressed for school today. It's the last day until Christmas break. It's about time we get out. Walking into the kitchen, I see Lauren and Eric eating breakfast. I came back into the apartment late last night and everyone was asleep.

"Hey," I say.

"Hey," Eric says with a mouth full of cereal. Lauren smiles and continues to eat.

"Where's Zeke?" I ask.

"He's in his room with Shauna," Eric says.

"Oh." I'm the only guy without a girl. As soon as I start to walk out the door, Zeke walks out. He's shirtless and his hair is a mess. There's no telling what he did last night. Shauna follows behind him and she just looks sleepy. She flashes me a small smile when she notices me.

"Why are you leaving so early Four?" Zeke asks and yawns.

Why am I leaving so early? Is it because I want to see Tris? No. I'm trying to get over her.

"I don't know," I say. I put my bookbag down that I grabbed earlier and sit at the table beside Eric.

Zeke walks back into his room and grabs a shirt. He comes back out and grabs his keys off the counter.

"Let's go," he says. He looks at Shauna and me.

"Me?" I ask.

"Yes you now come on." Zeke motions for me to walk outside, so I do. Him and Shauna come out into the hallway.

"I thought we could go get some breakfast," Zeke says.

"Not with your hair looking like that," Shauna adds.

"Yeah," I say. "It looks awful." Zeke squints his eyes at me, clearly annoyed. Shauna laughs at my comment and smiles at me. Zeke actually picked himself up a nice girl. I can't believe it, knowing him.

"Well fix it," Zeke says. "If it looks so terrible." Shauna laughs and runs her fingers through Zeke's hair. She pats it down and it looks halfway better.

"Done," she says.

We all walk down to the parking lot outside and it's freezing. We get in Zeke's car and he cranks it up. Shauna called shotgun earlier so she sits in the front with Zeke. Which leaves me, in the back. Zeke drives off and he turns up the radio. The car starts vibrating and it immediately quits. The music stops. I look and see Shauna staring at Zeke. She turned the music off.
Thank God.

"Why'd you do that?" Zeke asks.

"Because," Shauna says. "You're not even talking to us." She looks at me and then back at Zeke. "It's rude."

Zeke looks like he's about to argue, but he doesn't. He shrugs and pulls into a small coffee shop parking lot. We go in, order breakfast, eat, and come back to the car.

"Today's the last day of school before Christmas break," I say, breaking the silence.

Shauna nods, but Zeke makes no movement at all. He drives into the school parking lot and gets out, then he leaves.

Shauna and I are still sitting in the car. It's silent.

"What's the deal with him?" I ask.

Shauna turns around and looks at me. A small smile forms on her face and then it disappears. Her hair glistens in the sunlight that's shining through the window. "I think," she says, "that he needs to come to his senses."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask her.

Shauna winks at me. "You'll see," she says. She gets out of the car and walks into the building. I can't help but stare at her when she leaves. Now I see why Zeke likes her. I hate to say this, but I do too.

Tris's POV

I go to school the next day and take the history test. It caused me to miss my date with Four last night. Well, I don't really know if it was a date, but I would have enjoyed it.

I see Four as I'm walking down the hall and I flash him a smile. He looks me straight in the eye, but there's no emotion in his face. He ignores me and leaves. At least the school day is over. I look behind me and see Marlene and Christina laughing with the baby Mia. Uriah and Will are walking behind the girls, and they look worn out. I guess that's what girlfriends and school do to you.

I wait for Chris and Mar to catch up with me, but they pass right by me. They didn't even notice me. Will and Uriah are busy arguing about their favorite movies. Nobody today is paying me any attention. I sigh and walk to my car. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

-------

Zeke's POV

I walk out of the locker room. As I'm leaving to go to my car, I hear someone scream my name. I turn around and see some of the guys I usually hang out with. The one who screamed my name, Jeff, walks up to me.

"Hey man," he says. "Why weren't you at lunch today?"

I think about lunch. It was the best lunch I've had in weeks. Of course, the food was something besides chicken, but I sat with Shauna, Marlene, Uriah, and Four. They're a whole lot nicer than Jeff and the rest of the 'gang'. I felt like a better person actually, happier even.

"I was at lunch. You just didn't see me," I say. Jeff acts confused but he shrugs it off.

"How about let's go get some drinks tonight? We can get high, go to the club, whatever." He smirks. There's is no way I'm doing any of that.

"No," I say. "I'm just gonna stay home."

"Why not?" Jeff asks. "You know, Zeke you're not acting right anymore," he says. "That's not how us popular kids act."

"Well then maybe I'm not popular anymore."

"But you're not one of those losers or geeks. Everybody likes you. Quit acting like a jerk and just let loose," Jeff says.

"I don't need everybody to like me Jeff," I say.

"But it's not cool dude-"

"I DONT WANT TO BE LIKE YOU! IVE REALIZED HOW STUPID YOU ALL LOOK. YOURE ARROGANT AND STUCK UP. I DONT WANT TO BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE!"

Jeff's eyes widen from my sudden outburst. He needs to understand that being popular doesn't even matter for a person to be successful in life. I don't give him time to answer me. I turn around and walk back to my car.

Shauna is standing at the door of my car when I get there. "Hey," she says and smiles.

"Hey," I sigh.

"Is something wrong?" she asks.

I dig in my pocket and feel around for my car keys. They're not in there. "Ughhhh," I groan. "Well, I've lost my keys."

"No," Shauna says. "They're right here." She holds them up in her hand and then drops them in mine. "You left them in the car this morning."

"Thanks," I say. "What do you want to do today?"

"I didn't know we were doing anything. I just came to bring you your keys," Shauna says.

"I'll drive you back to your place," I say. "Or my place. Or wherever you want-"

She laughs. Her laugh is so adorable. "You can take me back to my place." I suddenly feel really sad because I realize that I want her company more than anything right now. "But," she adds. "You can stay at my place. It's quieter than yours and I have Netflix." I feel a smile spread across my face, and before I know it, we're riding over to her place.
