Y/N's POV

I was about to head to the computer lab after school when I bumped into someone who seemed pretty angry. "What do you want." he practically shouted at me.

"Woah there hot-pocket! Just an accident. Watcha got there?" I had noticed he was clinging tightly to a paper. He looked at me and I immediately recognised him as that Connor Murphy guy people always pick on. I've gotta admit he's pretty cute.

"If you really need to know, some guy, Evan left it purposefully in the computer lab so I would read it, react an he could tell everyone about the freak freaking out." I stood there in kinda shock. Of all the explanations he would give me, that's not what I expected.

Then I realised that the only other guy still at school was Evan Hansen. "Wait, Evan as in Evan Hansen?" Connor gave me a look that read 'I'm not gonna answer you just get to the point.'

"Evan first of all would never intentionally hurt a fly, second of all has crippling social anxiety so it's totally out of character for him to spread rumours and third of all is literally in the same boat as you popularity wise and wouldn't gain anything from a 'freak freaking out' story."

He just stood there for what seemed like hours with the same cold expression on his face though his eyes seemed to be calculating what I'd said. It seemed like forever before he responded, "Well then why would he write creepy stuff about my sister?"

I grabbed the letter from him and read it before looking at him with a 'seriously?' look. "Have you even read the damn thing it practically screams diary entry. The way it's written it seems like life sucks for him and he has a crush on Zoe. Literally how did you see it as malicious?"

His eyes flashed with a million emotions at once. At first he looked angry then sad then embarrassed then confused "I...don't know." It seemed like he was going to say something else but stopped himself.

"Connor Murphy, right?" He simply nodded at me. "I'm Y/N." He just nodded again. I rolled my eyes at him "Y'know, in kindergarten this would be the part where we become best friends and-"

He cut me off with an outburst "Well this isn't kindergarten, Y/N! Life isn't easy like that anymore! All we are now is what other kids make us!" He tried to keep his expression as stoic as possible but I could see the hurt in his eyes.

"Well then I rate we just don't be what others try to turn us into." I tried my best to reason with him and I'm sure he could hear that I was pleading.

"First of all there is no 'we' and second of all it's a little to late for that, don't you think? Maybe it's a little late for some 'be yourself' quote you stole off of a pillowcase." His face was expressionless again.

I simply rolled my eyes and said to him "Look you can either give yourself the advantage of realising that there is literally so much that happens after high school or you can let it ruin the rest of your life or even let it cut your life short."

Saying those last words seemed to get through to him. He looked at me with this scared look on his face that I had never seen before. "How did you know?"

A simple four word question. A question that in itself could have many meanings but I understood what he implied. It broke my heart as the implication truly sunk in. Still I gave my two word reply. "I didn't."

I looked at him, like really looked at him and saw that fear from before still there. He looked as if he could burst into tears at any moment. I realised what I had done, I broke open Connor Murphy's exterior and in doing so revealed a lot of anger, fear and sadness.

I did what felt necessary and wrapped my arms around him. He practically jumped under my touch but I knew he needed this. He still never hugged back but that was alright because this was for him not me.

When I pulled away, I looked him in the eyes and said, "Everything will be alright I swear." I took out a piece of paper and wrote my number on it as well as a little note that said 'You Will Be Found' on it.

I gave it to him saying, "Call or text me when things get rough. I'm almost always available because I never have any plans." That made him chuckle a bit.

"Thank you, Y/N." I looked at him with a small smile and nodded. "Of course, Murphy. Anytime. Well... except right now because I've gotta give a kid who's probably freaking out right now his letter back."

That made him gasp in realisation, "Oh my gosh the poor guy's probably terrified."

"Yeah so I better give him that. See you around Conman."

He looked at me jokingly annoyed "You better not call me that, (really bad N/N)."

"For that one I'm definitely calling you Conman. Okay but seriously Connor, if you ever need to, just call me, text me or whatever. See you around."

I went off to give Evan his letter back after which he thanked me profusely to which I told him it was nothing. I even signed his cast. Well at least in the little space there was because of Connor's name being there real big.

I spent the whole walk home thinking about Connor and hoping that I had made a difference.
