Wow... I'm 16 now. Although this is the worst day to have a birthday on. No one will ever remember my birthday because they were to busy being excited to say "see you next year" to everyone. Oh well. I dont care. The only thing I care about is that I can get my driver's licenses. My pop has been teaching me to drive since I was 7. This test will be easy. I thought to myself.

My thoughts were interrupted with the sounds of my family telling me to go to bed since we stayed up late to see the next year. I was on my way to go to my room when my dad called my name "Grace!" I turn to look at him. "Yeah?" He gave me that smile that you do when you make awkward eye contact with someone in public.

"Here." He handed me a box.

"What is is?"

"A birthday present"

"I couldn't have guessed that" and I really couldn't. It was wrapped in Christmas paper.

"I figured I should just give you this now. I'm too excited to see you open it"

Dad was the only one who really cared huh? He was always the one excited go to my volleyball ball games or see me play in my band concerts.

"Alright" I started peeling off the wrapping paper. I picked at the tape that was holding the amazon box close. I finally got it open. Inside were some combat boots. Just what I wanted! I loved those things. But we were always to poor to get them.

"Like them?"

"Heck yeah. Its exactly what I wanted."

"Good. You better like them. I spent alot of money on those. Do my a favor and dont tell your mother, ok? She said that you were to old for presents but I couldn't not get you one."

"Thanks dad."

"Your welcome.  Now get to bed before your mother gets up and sees your not sleeping"

"Ok."

I went to my room and shut the door

I went to my room and shut the door. I hopped onto my bed and played with my phone I fell asleep after a few minutes with my clothes from the day before on.

In my dream~
Sounds of fireworks and screams of joy 4th of July? Probably. I started to walk around in my dream. I was in a place I've never seen before with people I've never met. Watching the fireworks blow up in the sky. It was beautiful. I hear a sound behind me. The figure walks in front of me. They were wearing a red t shirt and some Jean's. They put their hands on my shoulders and started shaking me. Everything went dark. I woke up.

I opened my eyes to see my dad yelling at me and shaking me to wake up. I heard screaming from outside my bedroom. I couldnt understand what he was saying, I had just woke up and he was stumbling over his words.

"What's going on?"

"I'll explain later get in the car now!"

"Ok?"
I stood up put my boots on and ran outside to get in the car. I look out into the sky and see something horrible in the distance. Colors of red and black smoke smuggling the earth
"What the...?"

"Get in the fucking car!"

I get into the car and dad steps on the gas. We start speeding up to 70 miles per hour.

"Can someone please explain what's going on?? What was that in the sky?"

"Bombs"

"Huh?" I hoped I heard him wrong, but i didnt.

"War has broke out and nuclear bombs are heading this way"

I started crying. This is the end isnt it? I thought out loud but no one answered.

Next to us were a bunch of cars rushing the same way we were. But going even faster. I geuss dad still is trying to be careful even though it's the end of the world.

"Where are we going?!" I shouted.

"The bomb shelter" my mom answered.

"Theres a bomb shelter around here?"

No one answered, and I dont blame them. It was a stupid question.

What's going to happen? I wondered. The world wont be the same. I started crying. Not everyone will get to go to the shelter. Alot of people wont. What if I dont get to be in it? I'll have to die.

Thoughts clouded my head as I heard screaming and booming sounds coming our way. The sounds hurt my ears and made them feel like my eardrums were bleeding. My heart was beating through my chest.

My dad turned the corner and the only thing I could see was people. People trying to get in. We hopped out of the car and started running as fast as we can to the front were they were letting people in. We pushed through people not worrying if we were being polite or not. We didnt care. No one did.

We got to the front. There was a man standing next to the entrance he was tall, had red hair and had a full beard. He was shouting out numbers. No...they are ages.

"5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18. If you are any of those ages step to the front. You are allowed in the shelter. There isnt enough room for everyone so we are only going to let in those ages."

I could hear kids crying saying goodbye to their family. I turn to my parents and hug them with tears running down my face. They are going to die...and I'll be by myself. All alone. A bunch of kids came up to the front and the guy directed them to stand on the platform. I let go of my parents.

"I love you guys."

"We love you to baby girl. Just always remember us."

I heard the guy in the front.

"Last chances! Come up to the front now!"

I turned and ran towards the platform. The guy pulled a lever. The platform started to move downward. I looked out into the crowd of crying people and spotted my mom and dad.

"Goodbye guys..." I whispered to myself.
