The sunlight was sharp as it shine through the gaps in the metal. Me and Larito spent the day in an old warehouse waiting out our time. Well, I was waiting while Larito was busy making more tablets.
Oh, did I forget to mention we're on the run and haven't blinked in a week.
It was when we found a Blink. We wouldn't have found it had Larito not given me a test tablet he was trying out to help people keep their eyes open for an hour before they would have to blink. It actually worked too. I stepped into the Blink and timed how long it took for the medication to wear off. But the time kept switching like it was confused before my phone showed no service and turned off.
"Larito...?" I called. I took in the scene around me and it flickered. I saw him again and called him. This time he heard me and grabbed a tablet, wolfing it down with a bottle of water. He stepped with me before our original surroundings completely disappeared altogether. I glanced back around at the 1920's scene around us and shivered. Larito looked panicked.
"We need to get out of here. Now!" There was a slight haze either side of us running parallel to each other and Larito began sprinting down it to a light at the other end.
"What's wrong?" I asked, puzzled by the situation.
"We're inside a you-know-what you idiot!" he yelled over a wind that had started to howl around us.
"Larito what are you on about?!" I yelled back as he dragged me along behind him.
"A Blink!" He stopped sprinting and the wind stopped howling. The hazes on either side of us started to close in on us. Larito didn't have to pull me along this time and as we reached the other end and stepped into the light the Blink slammed shut like a pair of jaws.
"No one who doesn't make it to the other end of a Blink ever comes back. You get me?" I nodded in response to Larito's statement. He grabbed all he needed to make more tablets and then we were on the run.
So, that's why we're in a warehouse. We can't sleep because we can't blink. Larito says that if we blink it will find us and kill us.
It obviously being the Blink.
I wandered over to see how Larito was doing with the tablets. He sighed and shook his head, passing me a tablet as he necked his own. "What's up?" I asked him, not sure I wanted to know the answer.
He sighed again and gestured to the resources scattered around him. "I have enough left to make three and a half tablets. I'm not going to take another one though. The rest will be for you."
I should have argued with him but at the time I didn't think it would have made much difference. Come to think of it, I was probably right. He never listened to anyone.
