Okay, on with the story:DSophie's POV
The ride back to my dorm was completely silent. Fitz sat there, his hand on the steering wheel, drumming his fingers softly, the only noise other than the sound of his car bumping up and down on the rough road. The awkward tension was so thick, that I felt as if I was suffocating on it.
I just wanted to reach out to Fitz and tell him I was sorry, but I settled for just reaching up to tug my eyelashes-the weird habit I have when I get nervous. Maybe I just wanted to admit that I didn't know what was rushing through my mind as I walked over and wrote my phone number on Keefe's arm.
'It was probably just kindness,' I told myself. But that didn't make me forget how my heart fluttered and my hands tingled when I touched his arm. And when he smiled at me.....no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get it out of my head the way I felt as his ice blue eyes widened with surprise and his smile gleamed as if to say something. Something I was too scared to find out.
'I have a crush on Fitz!' I snapped at myself. I made my eyes travel toward Fitz's broad shoulders, not trusting myself to look into his beautiful teal eyes, scared of what I might find there. I looked down at my lap again, the exhaustion from tonight's disaster of a date suddenly wearing me down. And I barely know Keefe!
'Ugh,' I told myself, 'Why couldn't you just be happy as the girl at the back of the class, wearing dull clothing and being a book worm.'
Fitz glanced at me. "Hey, Soph." He said, his crisp voice acting like a knife, cutting the tension so that it was now somewhat bearable. "Are you mad at me?" He asked, his exquisite teal eyes staring gently into my very drab brown ones.
I looked at him as I silently had an argument in my head. 'Was I mad at him? Wait, no. I thought it was the other way around.' I gave out a laugh of pure relief, his face shocked at the change of mood.
"I thought you were mad at me," I explained once I calmed down. He gave me a tentative smile and we spent the rest of the car drive laughing, for no apparent reason.
Fitz dropped me off at my dorm, not before giving me a kiss on the cheek making me turn bright red. He chuckled, then waved goodbye at me as I headed toward the door. Just as I had opened the door to our room, Biana had already pounced on me.
"Did you have fun? Where did he take you? How was it? GIVE ME DETAILS, SOPHIE, I AM DYING OVER HERE!!" I laughed softly and sat her down on my bed and groaned.
"It was a disaster." I said, "but then it got better." Biana glared at me. "Full run down right now. What happened?"
So that's how I ended up flopped on my bed telling Biana all the details of my date. When I got to the part about meeting Keefe, she gasped.
"Oh my gosh, Sophie! You met KEEFE SENCEN!?!"
I nodded. "Yeah. He smirked too much and winked way too often."
