I did not forget
How to cover my battle scars.
Darker foundation and
Pink/green concealer
Always go first.
Followed by a lighter powder,
A hint of some white primer
Eyeshadow,
And even less than 24 hours
After receiving a new injury,
It looks as if it never existed.
The only difference between
Then and now is
Today I have a greater arsenal of
Makeup to dive into.I compared 2 pictures.
From 2015 when the writing was all
Pen and ink, badly edited to
Make it seem as though something
Else may have happened,
To last night when
there was no pen in my
hand and the ink was not
black or a deep blue.
It took no editing to
Make what had happened appear,
Crystallized forever on the screen
Of my phone. The battle never ends, and
Lately I seem to be on the
Losing side far more often.
Someone ought to fire
The strategist creating such
Ill-advised plans.
I'm not sure how many more
War-inflicted traumas I will survive.
