I trudged into math class with a frown. I hated math, but it was the one class I had the table all to myself. The seats were in pairs of two to every table and ever since the first day, I've sat on my own.

I slowly dragged my feet over to the table, wondering why anyone thought it was a good idea to put math as the first subject in the morning. If I can barely solve problems in the afternoon, why put me through hell at eight in the morning?

Sitting in my seat, I rested my head on my arm and waited for our teacher to start. Students shuffled in, seeming just as annoyed as me that we had math class now.

"Excuse me?" a girl tapped my shoulder and I immediately straightened my back. She was my height with pretty hazel eyes and hair just past her shoulders. She gave me a small smile. "Do you mind if I sit here?"

"Sure," I returned her faint smile and scooted my chair over to give her more room. I've never seen her before so she had to be new. "I'm Leah,"

"Abbie," she informed me, pulling out a few pencils and her math book. "I just transferred here."

"Oh, me too!" I said happily. It was nice to finally meet someone new like me. "Where did you transfer from?"

"Rienfield High School. It's not too far from here. I just didn't really fit in there, I guess," she told me with a grimace, remembering something bad about her old school. "What about you?"

"Ocean City. It's on the East Coast of the United States," I said stupidly because you'd be surprised how many people had no clue what I was talking about. They have never heard of the beautiful beach and boardwalks.

"Oh okay," she nodded, taking in my information. I already liked her. The way she carried herself made her seem intelligent and nice, yet there was also element cuteness to her round face and big eyes.

"Okay, class!" our teacher interrupted and i quickly tapped Abbie's arm before we got too far into class.

"If you ever need anything, you can find me. I get what it's like being new," I whispered, hoping my teacher wouldn't catch me talking. The last thing he expected from the new American girl who usually never speaks a word was that I would be disruptive.

"Thanks!" Abbie grinned and math class began, making us both bored out of our minds.

After class was over, Abbie and I walked to my locker so I could put my books away. I was off the next mod and so was she.

"If you want you can come hang out with me and my friends," I offered but she shook her head nervously.

"I think I'll just study the school map or something," she joked, probably a little afraid to meet people because she's so new. I felt the same way too. "I made one friend today. That's one more than my goal."

I laughed at her comment as we walked down the hallway. She got a few odd glances from other students which made her sigh and cast her eyes down to the floor.

"Some people can be rude," I said, trying to make her feel better. She shrugged, kicking the ground lightly with her converse covered feet.

"Yeah, at least you understand being new and all." she agreed before stopping at a random locker that turned out to be her own. She placed her books carefully inside, keeping everything neat and in place unlike me who throws my books in carelessly. "You can go find your friends. I have to stop by the main office and get some books."

"Okay," I backed away from her locker with a smile. "See you tomorrow!"

I caught Michael as he was leaving school, walking out to his car. He was moving quickly, excitement in his step as he threw his backpack in the passenger seat and maneuvered around the hood of the car to the driver's seat.
