It had been seven days since the battle of Beruna and Katherine and Peter had not talked much since. Katherine had to admit that it was probably because every time they were alone or if he tried to bring up the kiss Katherine would quickly change the topic or leave the talk entirely by making up a random excuse.
This was not too hard as on the battlefield of Beruna Aslan had knighted her Lady Katherine Shadowsbane and she too became a knight of the Most Noble Order of the Lion. After Oreius had been unfrozen he and Aslan had spoken for a while and they had told Katherine that Oreius would act as General until Katherine herself felt ready to take the position.
"Me?" She had asked incredulously. Aslan and Oreius had shared a look before Aslan had continued to explain.
"My dear one, you awakened my blessing in wars when you called out to me because of your faith. It is something that will help you win future battles, only a true leader could have used that power, that is why I wish for you to be General someday."
Katherine had listened to his words and agreed to be General one day, this meant Oreius and Katherine spent quite some time together and she spent any extra time she could pouring over maps of Narnia to get a sense of the country.
When they had arrived at Cair Paravel Katherine had been in awe at the huge castle. She had roamed the corridors but most of all she loved the soon to be throne room which had a huge glass ceiling gilded in gold that she could stare through at the sky for hours. It also had lovely open windows and balconies that she could stare through at the sea which glistened deep blue. Every now and then mermaids would break through the surface and wave at the castle.
When Edmund, who had been quite worried about Katherine, had asked her why she had been ignoring Peter, she merely brushed it off insisting that she wasn't and although Edmund did not believe her, he let it go knowing that when she was ready she would tell him.
The truth as to why Katherine had been ignoring Peter in a way was because she had come to the realization that she had actually developed romantic feelings for him and the kiss had only pushed all the incidents that had been building up over the edge.
It had come with such shock to her she had not known what to do with herself. She could not help feeling a bit of fear in these new feelings after all Peter was going to be crowned King and she was just a Lady of the court. Then she could always hear this voice whining at her in the back of her head about how Peter deserved better and she could not help agreeing. What could she possibly offer him that would make him love her?
These seeds of doubt only grew as the day of their coronation arrived. She had gone with Aslan when he created their thrones. Aslan had pawed at the stone podium before the ceremony to summon four unique stone-carved thrones from the floor. Each throne had a carving near the head that was of significant importance to each of the Kings and Queens.
Edmund's throne had a carving of a sword breaking the Witch's wand. She learnt later it was also a symbol of scales. Peter's throne had a carving that was nearly identical to Rhindon. Susan's symbol on her throne was her horn. Finally, Lucy had her fire-flower potion as her symbol on her throne.
Katherine had been with Lucy and Susan as they had been dressed. Susan had been dressed in a light green-blue dress that was beautifully embroidered. Over it, she had worn a velvet navy cloak. Lucy had worn a silver-blue dress embroidered in silver-threaded patterns. She wore a red cloak over it with embroidered gold patterns.
Katherine herself had been dressed in a darkened green dress with no cloak and she had brushed her hair gently and left it down. She had not seen the boys until they had walked in with Aslan as she had been standing with the rest of the guests to the coronation. She and Raiden stood to the left of the centaurs that were flanked out, their swords held high.
