I chose our next destination.
I took Luke to my cherished lake.
I found it one day while walking
through the woods, trying to
clear my head.
We sat together on the edge, staring
out at the horizon as the sun
dropped lower and lower, with our
hands clasped together firmly.
"What do you think it's like
to be free?" He asked after a long
silence. I thought to myself for a
moment, and came up with an answer.
I took a breath before speaking.
"It must be like soaring in the air
like a bird. All of your worries are
nonexistent, the only thing mattering
is you and the open sky. That's
at least what I envision it to be like."
A smile spread across his face.
"I hope that's what it's like," I heard
him whisper, but I didn't question it.
