She looks out at the moon
Locked up in the tower of a castle that was supposed to be her own
She recalls a time when things were different
When she rode wild horses and slayed the fiercest of beasts
When she laughed and played and fell in love
When she was the hero of her own story
Tear drops roll down her cheeks
And she tries with all her might to take them back
For she is afraid of drowning
She shouts and screams and kicks about, all in an attempt to silence the tsunami of emotions brewing in her chest
She spots a dragon as it flies by her window, fire spewing from its open jaws
A sob escapes her lips and she tries her best to block out the screams of her rescuer
She has to be careful, she thinks as more sobs rack her body
For she has come to the realization that she is not who she thought she was
She is not the knight in shining silver armor
She is but a princess locked in a tower
With a heart made of fine china.
