After dinner, Chelsea's head slammed smack-dab onto her bed pillow. She screamed into it for a while.
Olivia knows. She has to know by now! Her brother literally just TOLD HER SHE LIKED HER! She had to be pretending to be oblivious to stuff like that. She's THE Olivia, an athlete who probably gets confessed to DAILY!
That or she's really, really REALLY oblivious.
No, she can't be that oblivious. She definitely knew now, there was no doubt Chelsea's mind. She kept screaming into her pillow until her voice started hurting. Then, she just lied there. Thank goodness, she thought, that she was going to graduate next year- then if things got too awkward she'd be able to run away from the situation and forget about it.
"Why couldn't that day be today?" She muttered, dreading the moment she'd be forced to go back to school again. She heard a small knock at the door, not loud enough to be a knock- just a small bump. She immediately jumped and opened the door, she knew exactly who it was- Her dog. She was a Golden Retriever named Pepper. Pepper immediately looked up and wagged her tail in the delight of just seeing her. Chelsea smiled, turned around, and sat back down on her bed. Pepper leaped onto the bed and lay on top of Chelsea's knees, allowing her owner to gently rub their back.
"I swear to god," She said. "You always come when I'm not feeling well. Can you dogs smell sadness or something?" Pepper nuzzled up closer to her. "I'll take that as a yes," She said. She sighed and looked at the ceiling after leaning back.
"I sent Pepper over to you as a happiness-grenade," The familiar voice of a woman she knew all too well made her head zip back from looking up. Who stood before her was a tall middle-aged woman with creased skin, and brown eyes looking enlarged by her circle-shaped glasses. She walked into her room. She had a white and brown sweater on and long black pants. "Did it work?" She asked.
Chelsea groaned. "Don't call Pepper a 'grenade.'"
"I'm sure she liked being a happiness-grenade, don't you Pepper?" She said, lowering her voice deeply as she petted the dog. "Yes you are! Yes you are!" She chanted, rubbing her body. The dog let Chelsea's mother know that she was appreciative.
"Why were you screaming, anyway?" Her mother asked.
"Don't worry about it."
"That usually means 'worry about it', I was your age once, kid," Chelsea was conflicted. She was happy that she had a mom that was so attentive, but at the same time she wasn't. Because it meant she would be nosey.
"...It's Olivia again," Chelsea said.
"Olivia?" She said. "Her again?"
"Yeah... Sorry."
"No, don't apologize. What's going on this time?"
"...Lucas told him I liked her."
"But didn't you tell her you liked her two days ago?"
"I- Yeah, but she thought I meant as a friend."
"Right." Her mother said. "What would stop her from thinking otherwise this time?"
"Mom she's not dumb. No one is- at least not like that. It happened twice. There's no way she doesn't like me. That, or she's playing it off just to friendzone me without hurting my feelings... I can take a hint."
"Y'know, let me tell you about what happened with your father and I.." Chelsea moaned loudly.
"Mom, it won't help!" She said.
"Yes it will! You haven't heard this one yet."
"...Fine."
"It was a starry night and I was watching the stars again. Your father was the last thing on my mind, he had only flirted with me only one time. I was just about to leave. Then when I was walking awa-'' Chelsea rolled her eyes.
