Focal city
Somewhere above Focal City"Can't blame this one on me," was the last thing I heard before I started hurtling down to the Earth. I fell with my back to the ground-giving me a clear view of all the supers above me. Petra was frozen in place as she watched everyone fall. She snapped her head at Aqua-Sport.
"SHUT IT AQUA-DORK!" She growled at him. I guessed he was the one who had spoken in the first place. How had this even happened?
Oh right.
Petra kept throwing people who couldn't fly off into the sky, Ghost used her telekinesis to make sure they didn't fall and die, Ghost started carrying to many people, Petra tossed me into the sky, and when Ghost tried to catch me (her shimmering light surrounding me for a moment) she passed out and everyone she had been carrying was now falling along with her. That of course included me. Now two out of the three supers that could fly naturally were passed out, and the third was getting smaller and smaller as I fell faster and faster.
"The Lainey guys!" I heard the girl with the sport suit and orange glasses shout. She was above me as we fell, but I watched as she tapped the side of her glasses-transforming them into sleek goggles-before she sky dived to me. Two minuets later she was beside me and laid back as we both fell at the same pace.
"Hey!" she shouted over the wind. I looked at her with wide eyes. She hit her forehead like she had forgotten something.
"Right! Sorry, you must think I'm insane!" I nodded my head. Did she seriously just nose dive beside me so that we could fall together? She smiled.
"'Lainey' is sort of like a slang word among supers. It just refers to plain people like you, didn't mean to confuse you or anything!" she laughed. That's right, we were falling at insane speeds-with extremely low chances at survival-and she laughed? I didn't have the patience to tell her that my confusion towards her had nothing to do with me not knowing the definition of a word.
"Um...super sorry to disturb you or anything but do you have a plan? Or like...anything?" I screamed so that she could hear me over the wind. I couldn't see any other supers falling beside us, so I assumed they were all above the cloud layer we just slipped through. That of course didn't make me feel better. The girls eyes widened before she scoffed.
"Of course I have a plan!" she laughed. I felt slightly reassured.
"He always comes through," I didn't even have time to question who 'he' was before a black orb surrounded her. After it covered her completely, the orb shrunk until it was so small that I couldn't even see it anymore, and it was gone. Ya no, any reassurance I might have once felt was gone. The ground was getting closer and the reality of me dying was suddenly unbearably clear.
"Ugh! Seriously?" I groaned, seriously so done with today. It was then that I saw the shimmering streak of gold shoot towards me. Before I could even comprehend what was happening, the Guardian caught me bridal style about two meters away from the ground. He set his feet down and shot me a dazzling smile.
"Miss me princess?" I don't even want to know what I looked like as I wiggled and squirmed-trying to get free from his grasp. Of course the idiot was just chuckling.
"Aw princess, what? No kiss for saving your life?" he asked, mocking hurt. I shot him my iciest glare.
"Okay buddy, as far as I'm concerned the only things your good for is putting me in positions in which I get dropped, tackled or threatened. So put me down before I get to add one more thing to that list!" I screamed. He smirked and opened his mouth, but before he could say whatever he planned on saying we both heard a car alarm getting way too close way too fast. I twisted my head just in time to see a truck flying our way. I screamed as Guardian dropped us both to the ground, his body completely covering mine. The car soared just above our heads and I let out a little whimper. I heard the truck crash somewhere off in the distance, and screaming of pedestrians shortly after. Thats when I noticed the position the Guardian had put us in-he seemed too as well as he smirked down at me, his twinkling blue eyes inches from my face.
"Oh now see this isn't so bad," he smirked-yet again. My eyes narrowed and my teeth grinder together.
"Get off of me before I castrate you," I seethed in such a deadly tone the super quickly got of. I followed his actions and now the two of us were both standing. I looked to see where the truck was. My eyes widened when I saw the vehicle lodged in the side of a building.
"What could have done that?" I said shocked. A-not too far-off roar answered my question. Fifty bucks if you can guess who it was. If your answer was: Big, Pink, and Ugly, the incredible Bulk, you would be correct. He was only a few meters away from us, in the middle of a main intersection. Cars swerved around him, but to be honest I would have been more worried about what would have happened to the car rather than what would have happened to the Bulk if one hit him. He stood in the middle of a crater which I could only assume was created when he dropped from the sky. I only realized now that I hadn't even thought about Bulk when I had been falling, but from the looks of it I could see the monstrosity had survived the fall without a scratch.
"Of course the Incredible Bulk survives," I snapped, both my hands motioning to him. Guardian didn't even acknowledge my amazing nickname-which, I'll admit, I was very proud of. He just smiled at the beast, cracking his knuckles-looking all macho.
"Time for a little payback," he stated cockily before he shot towards the Bulk. The Bulk just swatted at the super, unimpressed. His gesture causing Guardian to fly into a building and fall on the ground as he let out a moan.
Not looking so macho now.
"Oh ya major payback," a familiar voice scoffed with a laugh. I spun to face the wall behind me and saw the girl in the orange suit cross one of her ankles over the other and lean up against it, smirking at the Guardians figure. She turned to me and smiled, jabbing a thumb in his direction.
"Focal Cities 'greatest' ladies and gentlemen," she finished. Thats when I noticed the other supers all causally standing beside her, Ghost seeming fully recovered as she gave me a faint smile.
"Sorry for dropping you," she stated-regret clear.
"Um no worries, sky diving was on my bucket list any way," I said, no sure how else to respond. The girl in the orange mask laughed.
"Aww, Petra I like her! Let's keep her!"
"Quit it, Sonic," both Petra and Aqua-Sport said at the same time. Aqua-Sport narrowed his eyes at Petra and Petra mirrored him. Neither moved nor lowered their gaze for a while-they were having a stand off and you could feel how bad they both wanted to win.
"Guys stop PLEASE! I don't think I can handle all this sexual tension!" The boy-who had been silent up until now-with white spandex and red goggles groaned. Aqua-Sport started blinking rapidly and Petra actually looked like she was going to be sick. Seriously her face looked green and while one hand cupped her mouth the other wrapped around her stomach.
"Don't even joke Pyro," Aqua shivered. Choosing to ignore all of that, I turned my attention back to the girl-Sonic I guessed.
"How did you get here?" I asked her, referring to how she had gotten to the ground and disappeared from the sky. She shrugged nonchalantly.
"Petra shadow teleported me here," she stated it like it was no big deal and I forced my self to mirror her chillness.
"Psh, oh ya, shadow teleporting. COURSE!" I said trying to play it off like I actually knew what she was talking about. That's when an annoyed Guardian finally trudged over to us. Sonic nodded her head in his direction.
"See Lainey? He always come through," it was then I realized she knew Guardian was going to save me when we were falling. He had been the he she was talking about. A faded shout from the Bulk knocked some sudden sense into me-making me realize something. I coughed awkwardly, trying to get the supers attention. It worked and now all six pairs of eyes were staring at me.
"Sorry aren't you guys suppose to be saving the city or something?" I asked wearily. Ghost blew hot air out of her nose.
"We would if Superman over here would just admit that he needs help-" she froze suddenly. In fact we all did. For the constant groans and shouts of the Bulk had suddenly ceased.
The Bulk was gone.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AHHH cliff hanger!! I really like this story and I'm on winter break now so there should be another update soon.
