As the sunlight went down I came to the realization that I would not be able to spend my nights like I use to. Before vampires roamed the streets of America or the world even, I was able to travel but then the lockdown happened so states could figure out what laws they wanted to enact as if a lockdown was going to keep Vampires from traveling. A curfew was set for humans to keep us "safe". I used to be able to go out dancing. Every weekend I would gather with a group of friends and go out drinking, mingling, and clubbing. Now I was reduced to dancing in my room in a bunker built by a crazy old man Maddox was related to in order to wait out the vampire reign or at least that was what I thought was going to happen.
As I walked back to the Bunker with the rest of my team a flash of light hit me in the eyes from one of the watchtowers.
"What the hell! The sun isn't even completely down yet!" I yelled at the guy in the watchtower.
"Lia!" I heard someone yell out my name. What was going on? Just then I was hit to the ground. The pressure of Maddox's full-body resting on mine made me nervous. Maddox was a very respectful guy but for him to be tackling me to the ground must have meant something else.
"There's one around us," Maddox explained to me. Our whole team was scattered around. The sunlight was going down quickly. " How do they know where we are? This is a secluded place." I began to think the same thing.
"LIA!!!"Maddox yelled out as he was being pulled off me with one throw. I tried to reach for his hand but it was no use.
The sun was now peeking over the mountains leaving us with pink and purple skies and that meant in about a few minutes if we all weren't inside they would lock us out of the bunker. I tried to run over to Maddox's lifeless body and as I did I felt someone's arm wrap around my waist and pull me to the ground. I took my cross off my neck and burned the hands that were wrapped around my waist. Immediately the vampire let go of me. I didn't care to look back. I just knew Maddox was in need of help. As soon as I got to him I saw his eyes closed. I wanted to pick him up and run with him back to the bunker doors before they were closed shut but he was too heavy for just me to carry. I watched as other people tried to run back to the bunker right before the last of the sunlight left us. I couldn't leave Maddox alone. Some people were yelling in chaos at this one vampire that caused us, terror. Just then two more vampires appeared out of the darkness. The tower lights were left on for us to see but the watchmen were gone. Anyone who was left was taken but not without a fight. Some people had silver on hand as others carried bottles of holy water on them in case a scenario like this happened. There was no use in fighting back. They were too strong. Just then I was taken deep into the shadows of the night reaching for anyone that would grab my hands and save me.
When I woke up I was in a chair in a dungeon it looked like. The walls were made of stone and these seats felt like they were spikes in my rear. When I looked down I realized they were torture chairs used in medieval times to do exactly as they were called. I felt pins and needles hitting my behind as a vampire walked back and forth. I began to hoover my body the best I could over the chair while my arms were still tied behind my back. Three other people were next to me sitting on the same device.
"Please let us go." One man begged him. Immediately with just a flick of the vampire's head, the man was taken into a dark corner of the dungeon and all I could hear was bone-crushing with yells of agony and then nothing all at once. I began to breathe heavily. I didn't want to die this way. I wanted to live. I was too young to die but if I did I would be with my parents again. I would be out of this hell that is called earth. I closed my eyes and kept them closed. A warm tear fell down my cheek.
"I want to have fun with this one. She seems like she'll put up a fight." A woman with a high pitched voice whispered in my ear. I shallowed my salvia and opened my eyes to a woman in her twenties. She had curly black hair put up in two buns with wispy pieces sticking out to frame her face. Her eyes seemed kind but I knew deep down she was as menacing as the vampire that just killed a random man. As she walked in front of me she wasn't that big. She had a petite body kind of like I did. Her long black nails played at the end of the rope she pulled me by like a cat with yarn. I followed her up a spiral staircase and ented a kitchen. This must have been a mansion as it was filled with secret locations. I turned around to the door I exited through and it was no more than a refrigerator. The kitchen looked old-timey, unused but clean. They must have a maid I thought. I didn't know whether to speak or not.
