When I was younger I had plans for my future. I was going to be a writer. My books would be recommend to students to read over the summer because it gave a message or it was part of their reading list. I would have a family, one boy and one girl with a husband that I was in love with and he was in love with me. We would grow old together and my parents would be around to care for my children as my husband and I went on vacation but none of this was going to happen ever. Now none of this was ever going to be possible. The world was already was predetermined of who was going to have all the money and fame and the majority were vampires as they ruled every bank, politician, and business in the world.
I sat in the lounge area of the castle while all the vampires conversed. Idris, Zahdea, and Malcolm would look over at me in worry. I knew what was on their minds. I could kill them with a few drops of my blood. They were now scared of me, a mere human. Who thought I would be the one to turn the tables.
"If you need anything you can always let us know. We can get you anything in the whole wide world." Zaheda told me as she turned her skinny physic to me.
"Can I have my freedom?" I asked her. Zaheda rolled her golden eyes over. Her red lips took a sip of her drink before she spoke.
"You have it good here. I mean sweetie if you go out in the real world it's hard to even climb that latter. You would be asked to do things that aren't of your own moral code and now that you have this ...this blood, this weapon in you. There is no way we are letting you go." Zaheda cared to remind me.
"She is right you know," Idris said out loud.
"Look as a woman born at the beginning of the twenty century. We had no rights. We had to fight for everything we wanted. Our freedom, work, religion, you name it. We still do every day but now we make everyone pay for it whether you are gay, straight, Catholic, Christian, human, or vampire. Humans took to long to try to even up everything that is why we took over slowly but surely." She rose her glass in the air and so did Idris and Malcolm. They all took a sip of their drink.
"So what you're making the world a better place? There are fewer humans now because of your kind."
"Yes but look at the bigger picture." Idris chimed in. " There is less pollution, less endangered species, less crime, less of everything that humans made bad. We aren't the selfish species. Possessive but not selfish."
"Also when you get rid of humans you get rid of this progressive shit they always talk about. New ideas aren't always better. I like thing the way they were in the past." Despoina entered the room with a feather boa around her next. "It was so much more fun."
"But if you take out the humans there will be no more food for you," I said trying to understand them.
"What did you think our kind is going to erase the human race. Where do you think we came from? the ground? Life would be boring without new vampires to talk with." Zaheda laughed.
"Also food. I like my people thick and meaty." Malcolm said. "The bigger the better."
"But size doesn't matter. It's the quality not the quantity." Idris joked. They all sat there on lounge chairs looking up at the high ceiling that was painted with angles and such. Altair came into the room and when he did they all turned their faces to him and nodded their head simultaneously. I then caught on. The vampires show respect to an elder vampire when entering a room by bowing their head in some manner.
"Altair, welcome back!" Zaheda said. "How was work?"She sauntered up to him and flicked his collard as she left out of the room. Where did he work I wondered? I was happy he was finally home but I was sad because it didn't mean a thing for me. Altair protected me and all but I felt like a doll or a dog just wandering the grounds of this castle when I was alone.
