it's like a basic love story, girl meets boy, boy meets girl. But, add in a killer brother, another Lakewood Slasher, and a mute mom we could say this isn't like your average romance novel.

Lakewood's Annual Carnival has arrived, which means Lady of the Lake Pageant. As badly as I don't want to attend, and participate, I had to. I had to for Brooke, I'd be a terrible friend if I didn't, especially all things considering... this is all for her.
Last night's events with my mother and Zeb took a toll on me when I tried to sleep. After my mom informed us of her blaming herself for the death of my father and her son becoming a murderer, I couldn't sleep.
Zeb told me that he'll come over Saturday because my mom immediately ignored the rest of his questions and stared at the table that was in front of her. So, Zeb decided it was best if he ended this session much earlier than intended and to continue on Saturday.
I walk down the hallway of the school and come across the spot where Ms. Lang supposedly fell the other day. Emma said that there was blood everywhere, she doesn't know how Lang survived, but I can barely imagine the amount of pain the poor teacher was in.
I blink away my thoughts and turn away to open the door to the girls bathroom. I put my books down on a dry area of the sink and look at myself in the mirror.
"Hello, students. This is Mayor Maddox. Many of your parents have called with concerns about the impending Lakewood Days Carnival." The mayor says over the P.A. system. "Your safety is our primary concern but what we will not do is miss this town's 100th birthday. We have too much pride and rich history of overcoming adversity. So, join me in this celebration of courage and life, not fear. See you then." I let out a heavy sigh, I was hoping that it'd be cancelled so I didn't have to attend the pageant but I should've known that Brooke's father would never cancel anything. His ego was way too big.
The door to the girls toilets opens. I turn my head and my eyes narrow at the girl who enters. Audrey scratches the back of her neck as she holds the door open allowing her to enter.
"I'll go." She says and I roll my eyes.
"I'm just about done." I inform her as I fix my hair in the mirror. I tighten the black belt that sits in the loops of my light blue ripped jeans. My semi tanned skin shows through the large gap of my black crop top sweater. I grab my books from the sink and just as I'm about to walk out of the bathroom, Audrey's voice stops me.
"I'm sorry," she blurts out. I look at the shorter girl who stands beside the entry/exit of the bathroom. "I'm so sorry for hurting you. I'm sorry for touching your scar and using your pain to my advantage in order for me to hurt you more."
I sigh, I don't know if I can forgive her. She hurt me, so I don't really trust her. This entire situation sucks, our friends who were closer to me rarely hung out with those who were closer to Audrey.
So, for my friends, I begin to talk.
"I forgive you," I start and Audrey releases a sigh of relief. She walks closer to me but I stop her as I continue to talk. "But, I don't trust you. You took advantage of the horror I went through, what WE went through. I don't trust you but that doesn't mean we all can't hang out."
