It wasn't much of a surprise to Cheryl when her grandmother was placed in a hospital bed with cords attached to her and a ventilator. The old woman's health was quickly depleting and as much as Cheryl hated to accept it, she knew that it was only a matter of time before she passed.
Cheryl cried on the nights when she visited her nana. She let out all the tears, and even when she thought she didn't have any more to release they just kept coming.
Toni stayed by Cheryl's side the entire time, hugging her close and whispering softly into her ear.
She never left her and didn't plan on it.
One day, Cheryl and Toni were visiting Nana Rose in the hospital and were about to leave when the old woman asked Toni to stay for a few more minutes.
The pinkette looked up at her girlfriend who looked just as confused as her, but she nodded and left the room leaving Toni and her Nana alone.
"Do you need something?" She asked the old woman curiously.
Nana Rose just smiled softly at the younger female in front of her and reached for her hand. "You know my time is almost up... right?"
Toni exhaled, looking up at the woman and nodding slowly.
"At least someone is observant." The older woman replied with a short chuckle.
"It's hard for her, Nana Rose." Toni sighed, "You're the last living Blossom that cares about her... and now she knows that she's losing you as well."
The older woman looked up at Toni, closing her eyes for a brief second before opening them again. "Even when she does she still will have you, right?"
Toni chuckled, "I'm not going anywhere."
"That's good." The older woman yawned, "I've always known you were the perfect one for her."
The pinkette shared a smile with the eldest Blossom family member.
"I should probably go." Toni turned to leave, "Cheryl might be confused as to what's taking me so long."
"Actually, I have a very important reason for asking you to stay."
Toni stopped herself from leaving the room and moved towards the older woman once again, only for her to take her hand and place a small box in it.
The pinkette looked down at the box and back up at the oldest blossom confused.
"Is this-"
"That ring as been in the blossom family for generations. My late husband gave it to me just before he passed, and I know it means everything to me, but the ring should continue for more generations to come."
Toni gulped. She looked down at the box, feeling the coolness of it radiate in her hand.
"I gave it to Jason when he told me that he was ready to propose to Polly." Nana Rose said softly, "and when Jason passed away, Cheryl found the engagement ring and gave it back to me."
The woman stopped for a second, closing her eyes and reopening them. "I'm dying, Antoinette. I've known that for quite some time, and when it does happen I want you to be there for Cheryl like you always have been."
Toni nodded along, "of course. That won't ever change."
"I know." Nana Rose replied, "that's why I'm giving you the blossom ring."
"Nana-"
"When the time is right, Antoinette, you know that you must do."
Toni just smiled, "thank you."
Nana Rose squeezed Toni's hand before closing her eyes once again.
Toni placed the small box in her pocket before walking out of the room, where Cheryl was waiting patiently.
The redhead smiled as soon as she saw her. "What was that about?"
"She just told me to be there for you when her time comes."
Cheryl nodded, reaching for Toni's hand. "I already know you will be."
Toni reached up, kissing the redhead on the forehead. "I love you."
"I love you too."
The excuse Toni told Cheryl wasn't exactly wrong. Nana Rose did tell her to be there for Cheryl when her time comes, but Toni didn't want to explain the real truth.
At least not yet.
When the time was right, she'll find out on her own.
They'll just have to wait until that perfect day.
When they go on vacation to Bora Bora, Tahiti.
And Toni waits until the sun sets before they go out to walk on the beach.
And as Cheryl looks over at the ocean waves and horizon, before turning around.
Toni would be down on one knee, with the blossom ring in her hand.
And Cheryl would say "yes."
It's been a couple of weeks and I'm sorry for that! I've just been really lazy as of late... Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this short little one-shot, even though I'm going to be completely honest, the writers block hit hard with this chapter. I didn't really know what to write down and when I did it didn't really make much sense. So, I'm sorry if this one-shot isn't as good as the rest of them! It might be incredibly out of character for them as well, but who knows? I don't but I just wanted to post a chapter so.... Either way, I hope you at least liked it a little bit?
Be safe.
