Soulmates

The Journey

They had been on the road for about half an hour when Danny swapped with Freddie. The road was in an awful state with potholes and cracks all over it. It was like this because they were in the middle of nowhere in a Taliban controlled area so it wasn't very easy to repair. Everyone in the back of the truck kept bouncing off of each other and everyone was getting annoyed at this "This road is absolutely fucking awful" Georgie said as she bashed into Elvis for the 5th time. Elvis laughed and then said "You're right about that one Lane"

There was small amounts of chatter between the team about their lives back home as they had nothing else to talk about. Through this Georgie found out that Danny was engaged, Oscar was single, Max was married and had a 2 year old daughter called Chloe, Freddie had a girlfriend, Simon was engaged and had 2 sons called Nick and Harry , and that Elvis was going out with a girl called Debbie. Then the dreaded question came when Max asked Georgie "So, are you seein' anyone back home medic?" "No, I'm not at the minute, decided to go on a bit of a break" she quickly replied. She had just got out of a bad relationship with as she called him "a posh twat" and didn't want to give any further details "Fair enough" Max said back to her. Elvis was surprised by her answer as he thought that she was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen and that she surely would have been taken.

Suddenly the vehicle abruptly stopped and the driver shouted back "boss, there's a bloody white sheet pinned down with rocks in the middle of the road" Elvis jumped into action and grabbed the metal detector and went to the front of the vehicle to observe the situation. When he saw that the sheet was covered in blood, he suspected that it was most likely a dead or injured person. He walked back over to the soldiers and commanded "Everyone follow me out the back" They all stood up and followed Elvis who was making sure the area around the truck was clear before they proceeded towards the sheet. They stopped and he commanded "Lane, once I have made sure the path is clear and seen what is under the sheet, If it is a person I will call you forwards to assess the situation. Only once I have cleared a path are you allowed near the sheet. Is that clear?" "Yes boss" Georgie replied. He then said "the rest of you keep a lookout for Taliban" "boss" they replied.

Elvis carefully hovered the metal detector over the ground and then carefully edged forwards towards the suspicious looking sheet. He reached the sheet and was about to uncover what was under it when something grabbed his leg "MEDIC" he shouted and then pulled the rest of the sheet off of the injured man. Georgie ran forwards and saw that it was an injured ANA soldier who had most likely been beaten up by the Taliban and left there to die. She carried out her CABC's and saw that the man was very badly beaten up as he had at least six broken ribs, a broken right arm, broken nose and had large bruises all over his body "Right, I need an urgent medevac. I've got an injured ANA soldier" Elvis quickly called for one down the coms whilst Georgie further checked over the soldier for any more injuries. He was conscious, but only just "What's your name?" Georgie asked him "Ikhram" the man weakly replied. Georgie then gently said "okay Ikhram we are going to get you to a hospital, but I need you to stay awake for me right now okay. The helicopter is on its way" Ikhram winced from the pain as he slowly nodded his head. Georgie then looked up at Elvis and said "How far away are they boss?" Elvis who had been standing there the whole time to protect her said "I'll check" he then said down the coms "Confirm how far away the medevac is from our location, over" The lady on the other end of the coms replied "Three minutes away from current location Captain, over" Elvis then relayed the information to Georgie and said down the coms "received, over"

About 3 minutes later the medevac arrived and Georgie and Elvis helped to get Ikhram safely onboard. Georgie then told those onboard of Ikhram's injuries as she forgot to write down on his forehead what she suspected his injuries were, which she was supposed to do. She was angry at herself for forgetting to do this as this was one of the things they were told to always do in training. She felt she hadn't done her job properly, but Elvis thought she had and that she was good at her job so he said "Good Job Private" Georgie then looked up as Elvis was much taller than her and said "thanks boss" They then made their way back to the rest of the group and from there all got back into the back of the truck to continue the journey.

The rest of the journey was very uneventful compared to what had happened previously but that was the way everyone had wanted it to be as everyone in the army believed the less action, the better. The soldiers had even ended up having a bit of a singsong to fill the time which started off with, the wheels on the bus as this was a classic song that everyone had sang when they were kids on long journeys. Max has taken over from Freddie in this time and then half an hour after that Oscar took over from him and remained there until they reached the ANA base.

They drove up to the gates of the ANA base and went through the security gates. After they got through into the camp they got out the back of the truck and Elvis said "You have 10 minutes to get some scoff and dump your kit, and then we are headin' out" "Boss" they all replied and then after headed towards the tent that was going to be their quarters for the time being and then after headed to get some scoff.

The luxuries of Bastion were gone as there was only one mess hall here and the only things they were serving was chicken or vegetable  curry with rice. So they all grabbed a plate and loaded it with the food that was on offer. Georgie wasn't the biggest fan but she had eaten worse before so she didn't mind it that much. A few of the other soldiers complained about it though.

After about 5 minutes Georgie was finished so she went to grab some extra medical supplies to put in her med kit as she had time to spare. She grabbed some extra blast bandages and morphine as she had a feeling that this was a high risk mission and that someone was going to get injured.

5 minutes later they had split into the two teams and into the two vehicles with Alpha team in the front one and Bravo team in the one behind. The gates opened and they headed towards the compound.

Sorry for the shorter chapter I got a bit stuck writing this one as I didn't know what to put in it so I took some inspiration from series one when Molly helps Sohail after he was beat up by the Taliban.
