Camp Bastion

Georgie was standing in the queue for Nando's for about 10 minutes when there was a call for  all medical personnel to report to the hospital as there was a medevac  helicopter coming in with 5 injured soldiers who, all had CAT A injuries. She didn't even hesitate as she knew her stomach could wait, but those in the hospital could not so, she sprinted towards the hospital as fast as she could.

The injured men were brought in after Georgie got there so she had enough time to quickly chuck on a pair of surgical gloves and disposable medical apron  to protect her uniform. The injured were then brought into the hospital and she went to see where she was needed.

The soldier she saw had severe burns all over his body and no longer had the lower half of his left leg, also he had 2 bullet holes in his right side. Georgie felt sorry for this poor man as he looked only around her age and all he was trying to do was help like any other soldier. He had some of the most horrific injuries Georgie had ever seen in her short time in Afghanistan. She and some other medics wheeled him into one of the operating theatres to get his leg seen to and then Georgie went to see some other patients as she could see that the hospital needed some extra staff at the minute.

She spent another 2 hours in the hospital, so it was late when she got out and all of the food places were closed but, she didn't mind that at all as she knew that she had done her job and helped save a life. She also remembered that she had the rest of her water and a banana in her bergen so she wouldn't be going without food.

Elvis stepped out of the operations tent where he had been planning the tactics for the mission when he saw Georgie walking back to the female quarters "What are you still doin' up Lane?" He asked her. She jumped as he had given her a fright and then quickly spun around to see who it was. She then managed to see even though it was dark it was her boss so she quickly replied "sorry boss, I was at the hospital" "Get some sleep then" he said back to her "Will do boss" she replied and then walked into the tent that housed the women's quarters. He then walked off in the direction of his cabin.

Her bed was at the opposite end of the tent so she had to quietly tiptoe to it without waking up anyone else. She managed to get to her bed so she sat down and quietly unzipped her bergen and got out her pyjamas which consisted of a red vest top and black shorts. She put them on and then sat on the edge of her bed eating her banana and drinking her water. She then took her hair down from the tight braided bun it had been in since she left Manchester and got into bed. She didn't realise actually how tired she was until her head hit the pillow and she was out.

He opened the door to his cabin and turned on the light. He then took off his uniform and replaced it with some black shorts. He turned off the lights and then got into bed. However he couldn't fall asleep as there was one thing on his mind. Georgie Lane.

The next morning she woke up at six and headed straight to the showers as she felt disgusting and wanted to wash the Afghan grime out of her hair. She had meant to go for a shower last night after dinner but because she was needed at the hospital she didn't have time to. The shower block was quiet as most people normally went for one in the evening and it was also quite early. She quickly undressed and spent 5 minutes under the hot water. After that she turned off the shower and put on her underwear, combats, green army T-shirt and put her hair up into the same army regulation bun. She then made her way to the mess hall.

There was a buffet of all kinds of things that are found in a classic fry up. Georgie filled her plate with bacon, scrambled egg and baked beans. She then took her plate with her to make a cuppa. She waited a few minutes for the water to boil and in that time the rest of the team had come into the mess hall and joined the queue for the breakfast buffet. She made her tea and then walked over to an empty table and sat down. A few minutes after she sat down Elvis sat down.

"Mornin"  Elvis said to her "Morning, boss" she replied back. She then finished her breakfast and was about to go and make herself another drink so she asked Elvis "Do you want another coffee boss?" He replied "em... yeah alright then. Milk, no sugar" Georgie then took her and Elvis's mugs and made her tea and his coffee. The kettle seemed like it took ages to boil as when it finally did the rest of the team were sitting down at the table and were already tucking into their breakfasts. Once the water had finally boiled she quickly poured it into Elvis's coffee and her tea and after added the milk to his and the milk and sugar to hers.  She carefully walked back over to the table trying not to scold herself and  gave Elvis his coffee and then sat down "Cheers" Elvis said to her. She then quickly downed her tea, put her mug away and left the tent.

Georgie made her way back to the female quarters to grab her water bottle so she could refill it, as she drank the remaining water last night. She got to the tent and went over to her camp bed where her belongings were. She then grabbed her water bottle and exited the tent.

Elvis saw her in the queue for the water so he shouted "Lane, mission debrief in 10" Georgie replied "Yes boss" and then after filling her bottle went to put it back and grabbed her notepad and pen at the same time so she could write down notes about the mission. Then she made her way to the operations tent where the rest of the team were gathered.

There were only about 5 of them crowded around a digital map of the location they were going to and as Georgie was only 5ft 4 she could see properly for once as normally there were 12 or so other people that were much taller than her in the way. About a minute later Elvis walked in with the Brigadier and the debrief began by him saying "right, we are going to the North of the country to rescue 2 British teenage girls who will be known as the primary's, is that clear" "Yes boss" they all replied. Elvis then continued by saying "the girls are being held hostage by the Taliban in a heavily armed compound. We will be splitting up into two teams. Alpha team, myself, Lane, Danny and Oscar. Bravo team, Freddie, Max and Simon" they all quickly wrote down the details so far before Elvis continued by saying " Team Alpha are going in the first vehicle and Team Bravo in the second. When we get to the suspected location Team Alpha minus Lane are going to see where all the insurgents are stationed and also try to figure out where the primary's are being held if they are there. Then Bravo team are going to join us and we will secure the compound taking out any insurgents that we come across on the way. Then we are going to rescue the girls and Team Bravo are going to take them to the second vehicle after being given a medical check by Lane and get them to safety. Then once we are all safely out of the compound and a safe distance away I will call in the cavalry ,who will be on standby and they will destroy the compound. Then the mission will be complete and Alpha team can head back to base" he looked around at his team and said "Is that clear" they all replied "Yes boss" Elvis then said "We leave in 10, so grab your kit and put on all protective clothing and then meet me at the vehicle nearest the entrance gate" He then exited the tent and headed towards the vehicle.

Georgie quickly ran to get her bergen and put on her protective vest, Jacket and Helmet as she was already wearing most of her kit. She then made her way over to the vehicle and got in the back where most of the team was already waiting. Elvis then said "We have about a 2 hour drive to the ANA base we will be staying at, so get comfy fella's, but remain alert at all times. We will take shifts on manning the gun but, Danny you're first" "Boss" Danny replied as he got up and stood on the raised lookout platform.

The engine then rumbled into action and the vehicle headed out into the desert.
