Alpha team walked for about 15 minutes so they were a safe distance away from the compound and out of sight of any possible members of the Taliban in the area, as what they were about to do would make them massive targets. They climbed to the top of a small hill, laid down on their fronts and hid behind some large boulders for further cover and protection.

"primary's are secured and the compound is clear, send them in over" Elvis said into his coms "Received, copy that, over" the operator on the other end of the line said. About a minute later there was a deafening sound that sounded like the sky was ripping open. The noise was getting louder so it was pretty clear whatever was causing it was heading towards them "Here come the Calvary" Elvis said to his team without even looking up as he was too busy focusing on looking through his scope at the compound. Georgie then looked up and saw that there were two small planes heading towards the compound. She tried to peek out from behind the rock she was behind and saw a massive explosion of flames and smoke coming from where the compound once was. This shocked her and she accidentally said "What the fu" under her breath without knowing what she was saying. She stopped herself when she realised she was talking.

Elvis called in their vehicle after this and a few minutes later their vehicle came into view and he spotted it so he said "Army vehicle on its way, let's go" Georgie got up and grabbed her bergen and they all headed towards the approaching vehicle.

Georgie, Elvis and Danny got in the back whilst Oscar got in the front with the driver. They all slammed the doors shut and headed back to the ANA base they were staying at.

They had been driving for about an hour and they were all just chatting when "BOOM" the front of the vehicle was no longer there and Oscar and the driver were laying lifeless on the ground "SHIT" Elvis shouted, he was unharmed and so was Georgie but Danny was bleeding. Georgie noticed that Danny was injured "Boss, Danny's been injured" she shouted. Elvis ran over and hoisted him over his shoulder then exited the truck. Georgie followed and told Elvis "Boss, put him down I need to locate his injuries. Elvis carefully put Danny down on the ground and Georgie saw that he had blood pouring from his head and leg. She quickly wrapped a bandage around his cuts and applied pressure to the one on his leg to stop the bleeding. Then she noticed that he also had a broken right leg, so she gave him some morphine to stop the pain or at least make it less painful.

Meanwhile Elvis went round to the front of the truck and saw that both Oscar and the driver were motionless on the ground surrounded by the wreckage of the explosion. It then hit him that they were both dead. He felt awful as they were in his charge and he was their CO. He felt terrible but he knew he had to keep himself together for the surviving members of his team. He then walked back around to the two surviving members of his team and said "we need to move, we are too out in the open and that explosion was so loud that most of the Taliban in the area must have heard it" "Ok boss, can you help me to get him into that ruin over there, he can't walk" without hesitating Elvis lifted Danny over his shoulder and they quickly made their way towards the ruin which was only about 20 metres away and on top of a small hill.

He carefully placed Danny down on the floor of the ruin and said to Georgie "help me to block the entrance" They quickly started lifting the pieces of rubble and rocks over to the entrance of the ruin. They couldn't fill it all the way but they managed to fill it most of the way.

Georgie went back over to Danny and checked him over for other things such as concussion and other broken bones. She discovered that he had a few broken ribs. This was probably because he got forcefully pushed onto the floor of the army vehicle by the blast from the bomb. Georgie then put him on an IV to keep his blood pressure stable due to the amount of blood he had lost from his head and leg injuries. Meanwhile Elvis tried to call in that their vehicle had gone over an IED but the line was dead. The coms weren't working as the explosion had scrambled them. He then got out a small device from one of his pockets on his protective vest and started fiddling with it whilst whistling to the tune of "She Moves In Her Own Way" by The Kooks. Georgie looked at him like he was mad as she was definitely panicking about their situation and it seemed like he didn't have a care in the world.

Suddenly they heard voices but what they were speaking was definitely not English and Georgie could see through cracks in the rocks that the men were holding guns. This made her panic even more. Elvis could clearly see the panic on her face so he said to her "I'm getting you out of 'ere Georgie" she looked up at him and he looked her in the eye and said "I'm getting you out of 'ere" He then started swinging the device he was fiddling with before (which happened to be an infrared device)  through a hole in the rocks to try and signal any nearby drones that were in the area"

Suddenly Danny started screaming "MUM, MUM" the morphine had clearly not been enough and he was in excruciating pain still. Georgie's eyes widened. She didn't know whether the Taliban were still in the area. She quickly grabbed a blast bandage and gagged him. She felt bad but she knew it was necessary to be able to prolong their lives for a few more minutes.

They had been in the ruin for at least an hour when Elvis got a call through the coms that said that the drone had spotted their signal and that they were sending a vehicle out to pick them up. He told Georgie with a smile on his face "What did I tell ya Georgie, they found us" Georgie had tears in her eyes. She was so happy that she was getting out of this disaster alive.

An hour later Elvis saw that the Taliban had since moved on so he said to Georgie "Help me unblock the entrance, we need to be able to spot the vehicle when it comes so we can't stay in 'ere"  They unblocked the entrance bit by bit and cautiously exited the ruin with Elvis carrying Danny over his shoulder and Georgie carrying the medical supplies. They headed for a nearby mound on the opposite side of the road that had some rocks for cover. Elvis put Danny down and he and Georgie kept a lookout for the vehicle.

They were there for about 10 minutes when the army vehicle came into view and Elvis said for the second time that day "Army vehicle on it's way let's go" Georgie grabbed the med bergen and Elvis grabbed Danny "Brilliant work today private" he told her as they cautiously walked down the hill to meet the approaching vehicle "Thanks boss" she replied.

It was a smaller vehicle than the one they had been in before so it was a bit of a squash in the backseat. Georgie decided that she should tell Elvis about the odd feeling that something was going to go wrong "Boss, when we were still back at Bastion I had an odd feeling that something was going to go wrong, I didn't say anything because I thought it was just the nerves about being on my first SF mission" Elvis looked her in the eye and said "You do know it's not your fault Georgie, no one knew that we were gonna go over an IED" Georgie had tears in her eyes as she said "But I lost two men in my care and the third One could have died also, what kind of medic does that make me" Elvis put an arm around her shoulder and said "It's alright everyone makes mistakes, and your a bloody good medic"

The drive back to the ANA base took about an hour. During this time Georgie pulled herself together and awkwardly said to Elvis "Boss, I'm sorry about crying earlier that's not what I'm normally like it's just they are the first people to die in my care, and I was still in shock about what happened" Elvis looked down at her and said "No one blames you, they woulda had to be superhuman's to survive being directly above an IED"

They got back to the base and it was getting dark. They were met as they got out of the vehicle by Max, Freddie and Simon who were so glad to see them, as in that kind of situation normally no one makes it out alive. They all gave Georgie a big hug and then helped her to get Danny into the med tent where he would be kept until the helicopter arrived to take him to the main hospital at Camp Bastion.

They placed him down on the bed and then Max turned to Georgie and said "I thought you would like to know that the girls made it to Bastion safe and are going to be on the next flight home" "That's great news, at least one good thing has come out of this awful day" she exclaimed. Max then said to her "It's not your fault no one blames you for wha happened...You know that righ" "right" Georgie replied.

About 10 minutes later the helicopter arrived to take Danny to the hospital. Georgie helped to get him into the helicopter and told the medic onboard what his injuries were and that she had put him on an IV and given him some morphine. The helicopter then took off and Georgie headed to get some scoff.
