Soulmates

The Mission

They drove for about 2 hours. Their destination was just a few miles away from the compound on the other side of a large hill and at the bottom of a valley. They stopped here because they needed to sneak into the compound and the best way to do this was to drive most of the way and walk\crawl (if they needed to) the last few miles, to avoid being spotted by insurgents which would lead to the mission being compromised.

They reached the destination and got out of the vehicles. Elvis as he was the boss, was at the front so they all followed him around the hill. It was May so it shouldn't have been too hot, but being in full army kit made the walk draining as it felt a lot hotter than it actually was. They didn't stop though as they all knew that rescuing the primary's was their number one priority and they couldn't risk taking longer than was necessary in case the Taliban saw them nearby and decided to move the primary's or cause further harm to them.

After walking for around 15 minutes they were able to see the edge of the valley where the compound was situated, so they stopped at the top and laid down on their fronts all pointing their guns down towards the compound "Alpha team, prepare to move" Elvis said as he was looking through the scope on his gun. He then said "move" and signalled for them to follow him. Georgie waited with Bravo team hidden at the top of the valley waiting for further orders.

Elvis, Danny and Oscar stealthily made their way down the side of the valley, being careful not to be spotted and hid behind some dried up shrubs, so they could observe the compound and figure out a plan of action. The sandy coloured camouflage  they were wearing helped them to blend into the surrounding area which helped them to go unnoticed by the Taliban. There were about 5 armed guards walking around the perimeter of the compound so Elvis knew that they would have to get their timing right or the mission could be compromised. They waited there for a few minutes to try and work out the timing of the guards and when the right time to move was.

Georgie still had a bad feeling that something was going to go wrong so she felt very on edge whilst looking down onto her comrades. She just sensed something wasn't going to go to plan whilst they were still back at Bastion.

After about 5 minutes of observing the compound most of the guards randomly went inside. Elvis decided that this was the time to breach the compound and rescue the primary's "Bravo team, move in" he commanded down the coms. The members of Bravo team then carefully edged their way down to the bottom of the valley to join Alpha team among the shrubs.

Georgie was now alone at the top of the valley and awaiting her orders. She could see everyone slowly coming out of cover and making their way towards the compound. This sight made her even more nervous as she now knew there was no going back. Then she heard shots being fired and she knew the breach had begun.

Elvis and the rest of the soldiers searched the compound for about 20 minutes taking out any threats they came across when a call came through the coms. It was Simon and he said "Boss, there's a locked bunker and I'm pretty sure that's where the primary's are, over" Elvis then replied "Confirm your location, over" Simon then replied "middle building, over" Elvis made his way towards Simon loaded with an explosive device to break open the locked door.

He got to the location and shouted "GET BACK" so if it was the primary's they would know to stay away from the door. He then attached the device to the door, set the timer for 10 seconds  and exited the building. There was a loud "BOOM" and then Elvis went back into the building and saw that where the door once was there was now a large hole and inside he could see two terrified, slightly malnourished teenage girls cowering in the corner "It's alright, we are friendly forces" he calmly spoke as he removed his face covering and sun glasses. He then said into his coms "Lane, middle building. We need you to check over the primary's, over" "I'm coming now, boss, over" she replied.

Georgie quickly got up and rushed down the valley towards the compound. She reached the middle building and saw that the primary's looked relatively unharmed physically, but she couldn't even imagine what they had been through mentally in the days they were there "Hi, I'm Georgie, I'm just going to look you over to see if everything is alright, ok" she calmly said to the girls. They nodded in return. Georgie then asked "what are your names?" "Shanon" the first girl replied "Sasha" the second girl replied "Ok Shanon can you please lie still for me" Georgie said in a calm voice. She looked over Shannon and saw that she had lots of bruises and a few small cuts that needed treated so she cleaned them up and then said "Sasha, can you do the same please" Sasha then laid down and Georgie checked her over.

Suddenly an alarming call came through  "Boss, we have a possible bomb making factory under one of the smaller buildings, over" Max said  "Don't touch anything, I'm on my way over now to check it out, over" Elvis replied. He then said to Georgie  "I'm gonna have to go and see this so will you be alright on your own?" "Yes boss, I'll be fine" she replied. He then left the cellar leaving Simon to guard the entrance and went to see what Max had found.

He reached the suspect building and went inside. He then saw that there was a hidden trap door leading to an underground room so, he went down the ladder and was met by Danny, Max and Oscar. He looked around and soon found that sure enough, it was a bomb factory "Right, everyone out now" he commanded. They all did as they were told and went back up the ladder. Elvis followed them and shut the door. He then went straight back to Georgie to see how much longer she was going to be. He also secretly felt like he needed to protect her and felt uneasy when he wasn't by her side.

"Lane, how much longer are ya gonna be?, we need to get a move on" Elvis asked her""Just finished boss they are ready for extraction, no major injuries just a few bruises and small cuts that needed cleaned up" They all left the cellar and went out into the main body of the compound where all of Bravo team and the rest of Alpha team were waiting. Elvis then called in the second vehicle that was waiting a few miles away to pick up Bravo team and the primary's. They couldn't use helicopter's because they were easy to spot due to the noise and if the Taliban spotted them then they would surely shoot them out of the sky.

They waited for about 3 minutes when they saw the vehicle approaching. Georgie reassured the girls that they were going to be alright as she wasn't going with them as she needed to stay with Alpha team. She then helped them into the vehicle, told the boy's to look after them as they had been through a lot and slammed the door shut. The vehicle then headed back towards the base where the girls would be transported to Bastion from by helicopter and then home from there.

Even though the mission had gone well with no injured soldiers. Georgie still had that feeling about something going wrong and now it was starting to really worry her.
