Cassie POV*
"You ready?" I turned at the sound of me mate and nearly jumped out my skin as arms circled my waist and across my chest tightly but loose and gentle at the same time. I still hadn't figured out just how his hold on me was always so soft yet so firm when he was clearly a very strong person or rather dragon.
"Yea sorry just had my head in the clouds a moment." I said as I looked out the window feeling a soft rumble in his chest against my back followed by a light kiss placed on the nap of my neck causing a shiver.
"Jacob." Was all I said as I looked back at him and he looked at me with a deep frown and a slight shift in his eyes.
"You have been zoning out a lot this pass few days, it worries me." He said before I leaned into him letting my massive dragon support my next to nothing weight compared to his dragon strength. It had been three weeks since leaving the pack, Luke, Max, and his sister Emily and lately. An odd fog has started to take over my mind clouding it every so often and mainly at night when the stars and moon is out and it seemed, today was no different.
"Sorry, I'm not really sure what has gotten into me." I told him as he nuzzled my neck as we looked at each other.
"Are you not getting enough sleep in Emily's room? Remember that you can always come to mine, the doors always open or I could have a different room set up down the hall that we can touch up to make you feel more at home?" He seemed to be so thoughtful and willing to do it seemed anything but I couldn't possibly do that while the worry in his eyes never stopped bothering me.
"Its fine I'm just being a airhead is all." I told him before we went for dinner where I could feel eyes on me the whole time thought he only looked every so often.

"Jacob, is it me or are we being watched?" I asked as I poked at my food with a mumble.
"I noticed, I already have people moving to check it out. Are you afraid?" He asked but I shook my head glancing at him.
"Just unsettled, can I sit next to you?" I asked him and he nodded taking my hand and moving my plate next to his as I got up switching to his side of the table.
"You didn't have to ask, is this better?" He asked with a arm slipping over my shoulder slowly, covering me in a sweet warmth.
"Its better." I told him simply before hesitantly leaning into him. The warmth he gave off and the pur like growl coming from him was almost, blissful.
'RUN!'
"What?" I asked sitting up hearing a voice yell.
"What's wrong? You gotta be joking." Somehow I was lifted into his arms as he jumped out the seat and pushed both our bodies to the floor. The sound of glass breaking was the first thing I could hear before screams and heat as a loud boom sounded.
I got you.
The only thing I could do was cling to the shirt of my mate as his body covered most of mine but even so that didn't stop an intense pain across my lower back and darkness as siren's and yelling filled me ears before being drowned out by a loud ringing with the smell of fire, smoke and rubber. All the contents of a burning building.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE CAN'T SEE THEM?! I COULD GIVE TWO FLIPS ABOUT THAT LIZARD'S TITLE I WANT TO SEE MY LITTLE SISTER RIGHT NOW!" It sounded like a familiar voice but I couldn't put my finger on just who it was talking and sleep was certainly a better idea than the work of getting up. With that thought a darkness took over again and sleep placed its order.
