Chapter 18

Alan's POV

"Hello, Mr Rickman speaking."

"Come on darling, we are past using given names..." A warm voice with a slight French accent answered me.

"Alix, I should have known I hadn't heard the last of you. What do you want?" I responded back, trying to keep my calm.

"The nerve you have A, you screw your whore, show her to the entire world, knock her up, take my children away from me and you are asking me what I want?! What I want is for you to give me my life back. Let her..."

"Alix. I am going to tell you something and this will be my final decision. It will also be my only warning." I said, keeping my voice at a low level. "You will leave my family out of all of this. You lost any rights to be in that family the second you started your affair with Victor. Now I will hang up the phone and you will not call me before the end of the trial. Goodbye Alix."

I hung up the phone before she even had time to answer me. Just as I put the phone back on the counter, Rose came down the stairs, holding Jane's hand and Sacha in her other arm.

"Daddy!" Jane screamed as she ran throwing herself at me.

"Good morning peanut" I answered taking her in my arms and kissing her forehead lovingly. "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, daddy. I dreamt about rainbow and unicorns and of mommy too. When can I see her again daddy?" she asked me, her blue eyes looking straight at me.

"Jane, you remember when we went to see the movie with Rose and Aunt Emma brought you home?"

"Yes, I remember daddy..."

"Well that night, Rose was hurt. That is why she had to stay at the hospital for a week. What happened is that your mummy harmed Rose. That is why you can't see her because the police is scared that she will try and harm you too."

"A bit like a time out daddy?" she asked innocently cocking her head a little.

"Yes, a bit like a time out. In a week I am going to go with Rose to the judge, it's someone who decides the punishments for grown-ups, and then we will know for how much time your mummy deserves a time-out." I tried to explain to her.

"So, I get also punished for mummy's mistakes? That's not fair. I want to see my mummy." She said her bottom lip quivering.

"Awww peanut, don't cry. No, you are not getting punished for you mummy's mistake. The person who decides the punishments for grown-ups wants you to be safe. He thinks that for the moment you should stay with me and Rose." I tried explaining to her.

"But it's been so long. Rose can go. She isn't my mummy. I want my real mummy back." She began to say.

"Now young lady, you don't say that to Rose. She has taken excellent care of you and your brother and she is going to be in our lives from now on. She might not be your mother but you will not be rude to her. Have I made myself clear?" I said, making my voice stern and looking at her in the eyes.

"Yes, daddy. I am sorry Rose." She said to Rose with what I could feel was an honest apology.

"Now, do you still want to see mummy?" She nodded at me, nuzzling closer to me.

"I am going to call her and we'll see what we can do about that okay sweety?" I asked, holding her close to me.

She nodded back at me and I sat her down in her chair at the counter. I went towards Rose and kissed her forehead before stroking Sacha's cheek as he was drinking his milk and already dosing back to sleep. Once I had reached my office I picked up my phone and dialed Alix's number.

"Hello, Alix Relbon-Rickman speaking..." her soft voice rang from the other side of the line.

"Alix, it's me, Alan. Listen Jane would like to see you. Even though the judge didn't allow you to see any of your children, I am prepared to make a small concession. My conditions are as follows: you will only get an hour with her and I will stay with her the entire time."

"I am going to stop you there darling. This little blackmailing isn't going to work with me. As you said, Jane wants to see me. You are the one responsible for our current predicament. Had you not given a second thought to your whore Jane wouldn't be asking for her mother. It's currently 9:30, I will see you in 30 minutes in Regent's Park for one hour of supervised visit." She answered before hanging up on me.

"Daddy, daddy, daddy... can I see mummy today?" Jane asked once I was back in the kitchen."

"Yes Peanuts. But daddy has an important lunch he has to attend so we will only be able to stay for a short while. Finish up your breakfast and go get dressed. We are leaving in 20 minutes." I told her patting her head as she ate her cereals.

I then turned my attention to Rose. Even if she didn't say anything I could see perfectly well she didn't want me or Jane to see Alix. Part of me wanted that too, but Jane wanted to see her mother and I couldn't deny her that.

"Rose dearest, it's going to be okay. We are going to be okay. I know you are worried sick, but you have to keep calm darling. How about I ask June to come over? When I come back we can have lunch together and then both of you can go and have a lady's afternoon while I watch the kids. How does that sound?" I asked her.

"Wonderfully good Alan."
