When the Skrill had caused that electrically charged explosion and Viggo had been met with a numbing, but welcomed darkness shortly afterwards, he was sure that was where the game would end for him. Apparently not.
As he started to stir, the fog surrounding his mind started to lift and slowly the events that had lead to the Skrill's explosion came back to him. As did the agonizing pain radiating across his back from where the arrows had been. By all rights he should be dead right now. So why wasn't he? Had Hiccup ignored him and come back for him? To give him a second chance he most certainly did not deserve?
While he tried to make sense of why he had been saved again, he heard something, like someone dragging something across a wooden floor. The noise prompted him to finally open his good eye and take in his surroundings.
Viggo found himself in a hut which, he was guessing, was on Dragon's Edge. He figured that if he was on Berk, or any of the other Dragon Rider's allies' islands, he never would have woken up in the first place. After all as much as Hiccup wasn't fond of the kill, his allies felt very differently about the matter. Trying not to move too much, and cause himself any further pain, he did his best to look around the hut and find the source of the noise he'd heard.
The bed he was laying in was set off to one side, there was a small stone hearth in the center and on the other side there was a table and several chairs. Near that table there was several shelves holding jars that looked like herbs and other plants, though he couldn't be sure from where he was. And there was a staircase that he could only assume led to the owner of this hut's bedroom.
From the jars of plants and the sparse furniture he concluded that he was in a healer's hut. Which made sense considering the injuries he had sustained in Krogan and Johann's base. So far though Viggo hadn't seen anything that might have made the noise he heard. That was when some movement caught his eye.
Curled up by the entrance to the hut was a mass of pale pink scales with black stripes. He recognised the dragon, of course. A Desert Wraith. He had seen it a few times when he and the Rider's had come to blows, but only ever from a distance or a quick glancing pass right before it destroyed one of his ships. Other than that, Viggo had never had the pleasure of meeting either the dragon or its rider. Until now.
Of course his first meeting with the Wraith was, not only while he was alone, but also while he was in a position where he couldn't defend himself should it decide to attack. Hopefully his luck would hold out and the dragon would stay asleep until its rider appeared.
As if the Desert Wraith had heard his thoughts, one of its eyes opened, revealing a bright yellow iris. It watched him for a moment before opening its other eye. The dragon then uncurled itself and stretched in a manner similar to a cat before sitting down. It continued to watch him with two big curious eyes.
The pair watched each other for what felt like an eternity before the Wraith finally stood up and began to approach him.
"Now, dragon..." Viggo begun as he raised a hand in defence toward the Wraith., but it continued its approach. Briefly forgetting his pain, he went to sit up in hopes that would stop the dragon, but the sudden movement caused his pain to increase tenfold. With large black spots covering his vision, he collapsed back onto the bed, letting out a pained cry.
As he focused on taking slow deep breaths, the intense pain began to subside and his vision came back. That was when he felt the side of his bed dip. The Desert Wraith, now with its front paws on his bed, towered over him. It leant down and began to sniff him. Before he had a chance to find out what the dragon wanted with him, a woman's voice filled the hut.
