TW: PTSD (comment anything else i should add)

I sat on the swing in the clubhouse with the Losers. We all watched Richie as he paced back and forth, flipping through a comic book.

"We first need to understand where your abilities came from. Were you ever bitten by an animal?"

"Do insect bites count?"

"What kind of insect?"

"Mosquito."

"What about a radioactive spider?"

"It was a mosquito."

"That wouldn't work. Everyone gets mosquito bites. Were you struck by dark matter infused lightning?"

"No."

"What about just regular lightning?"

"Nope."

"Are you secretly a princess from a hidden island populated only by women?"

"What the f—"

"Nevermind. Are you an alien?"

"No."

"Were you the victim of a twisted science experiment?"

"Not before I discovered my ability."

"Well, some superheroes inherit their abilities from their parents."

"I'm pretty sure if my mom was a psychic, she wouldn't have sold me to a lab."

"Ok, well, what about your dad? What did he do for a living?"

"He was in the army."

"Ok. Did he join the army before or after you were born?"

"Long before."

"Wait," said Ben. He opened his backpack and pulled out a big book.

"You keep books in your backpack, Bennifer?" said Richie, "In the summer?"

"Yes. This is the most updated version of all the history books in the library." Ben flipped through the pages then showed it to us. "Here. 'The peak of napalm deployment in Vietnam occurred in April of 1972.' Did your dad fight in the Vietnam War?"

"Yes. I didn't know there was an explosion though. He never told me about that. All I know is that he had to resign from the military in june 1972 because of bad injuries, and a few years later, he married my mom. Then, in 1986, when i was ten, he died of cancer."

"A well known long-term effect of napalm is cancer," said Ben, "That must have been where he developed it from. another known effect is birth defects. i guess... in your case, instead, it gave you advantages."

"So I'm basically a mutant?"

"Yeah!" said Richie excitedly, "Like the X-Men! But cooler 'cause it's in real life."

"But then why didn't I discover them until after my dad died?"

"Beats me. But now we know where they came from, so now we can figure out how to use them."

"How is knowing where they came from going to help me use them?"

Richie sat down on a chair. "That part I haven't really figured out yet. you mentioned something about psychic vibrations, right?"

"Yes."

"How do you know about these vibrations? How did you discover them?"

"I can feel them."

"Feel them? Can you feel them right now?"

"Yes. I can always feel them. Whenever I meet someone for the first time, the vibrations around that person's aura become good or bad. You guys were the first people that I've felt good vibrations from in a long time."
