'Ashton'

I was just standing near the dog pin listening carefully to what Mr. Frezno was saying. I still didn't fully understand the purpose of a guide dog. In my experience I've nearly run over a few dogs while driving. So I don't get how they can help me cross the street, when they themselves nearly end up road kill.

Suddenly my vision fadded from clear to blurry, then started to clear up again. This is getting really annoying I thought to myself. The splitting headaches weren't a joy either.

I watched as one of the dogs bolted out of the pin. This dog doesn't seem to be very blind friendly in my opinion.

"Some dogs are trained others still need a little bit of work. But they all are docile." Mr. Frezno explained, seeing the expression on my face.

I nodded back and watched as the dog  ran straight into Charity. I opened my mouth to warn her but it was to late. It happened to fast...

"Rufus! You bad dog! " Mr. Frezno shouted running towards the out of control dog, to pull him off Charity.

I ran over, really worried when I saw that her head hit the pavement near the grass.

"Charity, are you okay? " Mr. Frenzo was frantic.

I bent down and gently put my hand on her head.

"Charity, can you hear me? " She wasn't responding to me, and eventually passed out.

A blow to the head can be very fatal. I was getting really anxious over a girl I barely knew.

"Someone call a ambulance! " I ordered, gently lifting her off the ground.

"We have our own ambulance on sight in case anything like this happens. Follow me." Mr. Frezno said.

"How could something like this happen? This place is specifically for blind people, it shouldn't have safety hazards like this." I stated.

"Rufus hasn't gone out if control like that before. All the dogs here can be a bit rough, but not to the point of attacking a student." Mr. Frezno sighed, anxiety taking over his face.

We got to the parking lot, and I could see the ambulance on front of us. Until my stupid eyes decided to go off again.

"No...no..not now." I muttered, holding on tightly to Charity making sure I don't drop her.

"What's wrong? " I heard Mr. Frezno say. I couldn't see anything at the point.

"My sight...it's gone again... I can't see where the ambulance is." I gritted out my frustration just multiplying by the minute.

As if I didn't already feel useless.

"It's okay just stay right where you are, the ambulance will pull up here." I nodded in reply.

All that was going on in my head was I hope she is okay.

I waited in the hospital waiting room.  Tapping my foot against the floor impatiently. What's taking them so long?

"Jeston!! Sweetie are you alright? What happened? " I heard my moms panicked voice.  And suddenly someone grabbed my hands.

I panicked pulling away.

"Jeston it's me, your mom." My sounded so heartbroken.

No wonder, Charity panicked when I grabbed her arm. When you can't see whose touching you or your not expecting it...it's frightening.

"Sorry...mom.. I didn't know how you close you were." I felt bad my mom was just worried about me. She didn't mean to freak me out.

"Sorry Jeston, it was my fault...anyways can you please tell me why your in the hospital? The rehabilitation center didn't give me any details. They just told me you are here. And I was so scared that something had happened to you or that you got hurt... " She stopped mid way, but I understood perfectly how she felt.

There so much uncertainty now, I'm exposed to so many dangers. Who would have thought losing one of your sense could be so life threatening.

I heard sniffling and I guessed she had been crying. I could hear it in her voice. This was so unfair, not just on me but especially on her. I lifted my hands to try and reach for her when I felt her hand, I stood up to give her a hug.

She cried on my shoulders for awhile and I just let her. She needed to get the pent up anxiety out. I can't believe the centre didn't tell her that I was okay and wasn't hurt. I was getting more fed up with the place by the minute.

After my mom calmed down she pulled away and took deep breathes.

"It wasn't me that got hurt. It was Charity. One of the guide dogs went out of control and jumped on her causing her to fall and hit her head." My hands involuntarily balled up into fist.

She better not have died, if so that dog is done for. Sure I didn't know her that well, but she was proof for me that I could still live a relatively normal life.

I had seen her around school grounds a few times. She walked around by herself, with a happy content smile. I really didn't know she was blind, it wasn't obvious. I'd want that to be the same for me.

I'd want to live as normal as possible. Play football with my friends. Be able to Walk around without someone helping me. She was the proof that all that was still possible. So that settles it she can't die... She can't...why?  Because I said so, and Jeston Wilder always gets what he wants.

I internally slapped myself across the face, because if the above statement was true I wouldn't be losing my sight right now.

"Poor thing! I called her mother, she is on her way here right now. I really hope that sweet girl is okay." My mom sighed.

Me too mom... Me too.
