Chapter 5

I spent the rest of the night in the hospital like Dr. Payne ordered. Later the next day he said I was healthy and strong enough to go home. I had a few restrictions for a couple of weeks, like not being able to lift more than five pounds because it could put too much pressure on my side and pop the incision back open. Other then that, the pain meds are doing their job so I feel fine. Good enough to get on the next plane to California to see Ellen. My parents booked an early flight so we will have to wake up early and that isn't really my thing.

We drove home from the hospital and I instantly went to my room and starting picking out an outfit for the interview. It was going to be televised so I had to look perfect. After minutes of staring at my closet, I decided to go for a simple summer dress. The skirt was a light washed out pink and the top was all black. It was a v-neck and the back of the dress had a slit that went from the top to the middle of my back so I couldn't wear a regular bra. I have a sticky bra which acts like stickers that I just put on the front to give support, but you can't see them in the back. I think they are brilliant but they hurt like hell to take off. I also decided to wear a new necklace that I bought over the summer. It was silver and you're supposed to wrap it around your neck twice. The first loop is tight to your neck while the other part just hangs down almost to your belly button. The bottom of it has a cross and I think it will looks really good with the v-neck on the dress. I picked out a pair of black boots to tie everything together. I threw the outfit on my bed including my hair straightener and a pair of diamond earrings.

I put everything else on my bed that I will need for the next couple of days. Including my toothbrush, clean underwear, hair brush, makeup bag, shampoo and other outfits that I didn't put as much time into. I grabbed a suitcase and threw everything into it and crawled into bed. It was so nice a cozy and I missed the feeling of my pillow. I fell asleep happy knowing that I will be on my way to California in just a few hours.

My Mom came into my room to wake me up at five in the morning. I guess when she said an early flight she wasn't kidding.
I sat up in bed and took my pain meds that were sitting on my nightstand next to a glass of water. I slowly slid out of bed and made my way to the bathroom for a shower. I had to be very careful not to get my incisions wet. The stitches are supposed to dissolve into my skin but the one on my ribs is taking longer to heal. The one on my neck doesn't even need a bandage anymore which is surprising. But the stitches have already dissolved and it looks like a dark red line. If I get them too wet, the skin around it could become soft, and the stitches would fall out. That would not be good.

I turned the shower on and slowly got in, my left side going first. The water temperature was perfect. Which is good because once I get into the shower I can't touch the nozzle because that would require me to step through the falling water and get my incisions wet. It is really hard to put shampoo in my hair and not get the one on my neck soaked, but I somehow manage to do it. Thank god I shaved my legs before all of this happened or else I would be in trouble. Once I felt clean enough, I stepped out of the shower and bent down to turn it off.

I wrapped my self in my towel and made my way back to my room to get changed. I didn't try that hard to look nice because I would be on the plane. Once we got there, I will probably have time to put on makeup and straighten my hair anyways. So I don't want to waist time now.

Before I knew it we were boarding the plane. There is so much adrenaline running through my body, that I don't remember how I got here in the first place. I don't even remember if I had something to eat before we left.

We found our seats on the plane and soon enough we were off the ground and in the air. The flight didn't last as long as I expected. It felt like just a few minutes when it was really a few hours. Landing is my least favorite part. Your stomach drops every couple of minutes and your ears pop like crazy. That lasted longer then the actual flight.

When we finally landed and got off the plane, we walked through the sky-walk that is attached to the plane and the airport. We walked over to the belt that shoots out your suitcases and waited a few minutes before all three of our bags came out. We grabbed them and started walking over to the door. You could feel the heat wave coming in from outside.

There was a man by the door that was holding a sign that had my name on it. He was wearing all black and had a funny looking hat on. I slowly walked over to him making it easy to awkwardly walk away if it wasn't for me. A lot of people have the name Haley. He acted like he knew exactly who I was because he waved hello and grabbed my bag. I wasn't supposed to have it anyways because it was more than five pounds and that was doctors orders. We walked outside to see and long, black, shiny limo.

"Get in!" He said putting all of our bags into the trunk. My parents looked at him weird. We don't even know this man.

"Don't worry! Ellen sent me! Now get in!" He said in response to my parents confusion.

I got to go inside first and it was beautiful. Slick leather seats and flashing lights all around. There was a TV above and a small bar to the right side. The seats went all around the back and there was enough leg room for a horse. My parents got in behind me and they were both in awe as well. We just spent the whole car ride looking at all the cool things the car does. We pushed just about every button on the walls just to see what they would do.

We didn't exactly know if we were going to the hotel first or right to the studio. I bet my glasses and sweats will be a great first impression. The car stopped and we were in a back parking lot. The driver pushed a button on the ceiling and a garage door opened and we pulled into the dark space and stopped moving. We hopped out of the car to see Ellen standing just a few feet away.
