Path of the unknown

Oh how beautiful it felt,
to live a life that seemed like it
could go on forever.

But once it is suddenly over,
you turn back and look at the
life you left behind and wonder;
Why did you not appreciate it
enough.

The foundation of the life you once thought was strong enough to hold it eternally,
is now nothing but shatters.
The person who held your hand for years,
who walked by you throughout your life,
is now gone.
It was not your fault though and
neither was theirs,
for time was ticking long before you knew it.
Your journey of misery, loss and grief will take you down to many paths you've walked before,
but none of them felt this way formerly.

The cool wind makes your body shiver as
you try to look at them but tears blur your vision making it impossible for you to see them.
They hold your hand one last time before they go.
You beg them to stay a while longer but only silence follows.
You stand in front of the house you once lived in.
The house you both built with materials stronger than any other.
They slowly walk away and head to the now wrecked house.

You scream at the top of your lungs as you watch them go down with the old building.
You try to choke your tears,
you want to run to them and
ask them why they've left so soon,
But you know this will not bring them back in any way.
You try to find support somewhere in between the blame and payback,
but futile as it is,
you have no luck,
as none of them are strong enough,
To hold the weight of a loss,
That you are now compelled to carry,
forced to watch it all go away so soon
and bid your dearest friend farewell ere he walks down the path of the unknown.
