Chapter 10

It's a week before my birthday every day seems so short nowadays. Soon it will be time for my first shift. I've been extremely nervous. I still don't know what's going to happen. Jen said today after school she had to tell me something important. After thanking Matt for the ride I walked into the house. "Welcome home Ali, why don't you take a seat at the table I'll be right back" I'm anxiously waiting for Jen to come back from getting something from her study. I hear the door open. She walks in holding a book, it looks pretty old. Placing the book on the table she takes a seat "This book talks about how we came to be. I brought it for you in case you ever want to read it." she slides it over to me "you mean I can keep it?" I gently grab the book "yes, well now I'm sure you're curious about what I wanted to talk to you about?" I smile wearily "yes very".

She takes a deep breath before she begins explaining "I want to tell you a bit about our history." She smiles gently "You see thousands of years ago many vampires clans had gone rogue turning humans left and right, because of this our first ancestor made a pact with the goddess Artemis which granted him and a few others with the power to be able to fight the vampires." she pauses letting it sink in "Along with other vampire clans that disagreed with the rogue clans They managed to bring a stop to the rogue vampire clans" she looks at me making sure I'm understanding the story so far "However thousands of years later a group of vampires decided it was the right time to try to take the clans down as they couldn't long ago. But what they didn't expect was there was a group of young wolves who were born under the rare four moon phases they were born with special abilities. Those young wolves were crucial in The Great Uprising because of there courage and strength we were able to stop those vampires from taking over"

Why is she telling me all this? "you are very special Ali" Special?! What does she mean special? "you were born under a blue moon and the first time you shift will be on the night of a blue moon as well". Now confused I look at her " you are one of those rare pups born under the blue moon one of four rare states of the moon, nobody knows exactly what kind of abilities they have since it has been thousands of years since we've had a pup like this that we know of. You have to be very careful many clans would kill to have someone like you within their own. Your father made sure nobody knew you were born under a blue moon to protect you, Ali you have to make sure you tell no one about this" she places her hand on the book she gave me "you can find more information in this book, just be careful ok" I nod. Am I really that special? I didn't expect that. I mean it's not a given that I'll have any special abilities. Exhausted I head upstairs into my room ready to knock out.

Last night I had a weird dream. I was in a garden and I saw someone's hands reaching down to me. I wasn't scared; they were delicate and gentle hands. I can't stop thinking about my dream. I have a feeling it's a premonition of something. I don't know what but I think i'll find out soon. "Ali? If you don't hurry up you'll miss lunch!" I turn around to see Matt sitting in front of me. When did he get here? "Huh" he shakes his head *sigh* "You've had your head in the clouds all day. Just eat your food at least." I grab a fry and eat it "can I ask you something?" surprised he looks at me "yea shoot". I take a deep breath "what happens when you first shift?" he scratches his head trying to find the right words "well i'm not going to lie it fuckin hurts like hell your body has to change so that it can handle a wolves strength. The body gets bigger" I look back at him "bigger?" what does he mean by bigger? "Yea we get faster, bigger lungs, and thicker bones so our body has to adjust" looking at him up and down I definitely can see he has wider shoulders, thicker muscles than most guys his age not as big as Alex but still. "You also get taller," he says laughing, "that's why you're so damn tall" he raises an eyebrow "taller than average yes but since you're so short I must seem huge" he laughs again I hit his shoulder "I'm not that short!" Well maybe I am. I mean he's 6'2" and I'm 5'0" so I guess that's kinda short.

It's been five months now and today Saturday happens to be my birthday, tonight will be the first time I shift I'm nervous. Jen and Matt said they'll be with me when it happens which makes me feel a bit happier. We have been walking deep into the surrounding forest for an hour now. We need to go as far away from people as possible. Finding a clearing we stop "seems like this is a good spot to set up camp" Jen says letting her bag down. I help matt set up two tents we go collect some wood before it gets too dark. The sun is finally going down now I feel a slight wave of pain through my body as the stars start coming out. Standing up I grab my head. It hurts really bad "Ali are you ok, " Matt asks seeing my pained expression. "My head is hurting really bad........" all of a sudden I feel the world going dark "ALI!" Matt runs catching me before I hit the ground "Jennifer what's wrong with her, it's still not time for her to shift and this doesn't happen when you first shift!"
