As I creep along the hallway towards my room, I run into professor Garron again.
"Why, Anna? What are you sneaking around for?" He had asked me.
"Oh, no reason. Just playing spy with Anna." I had lied to him, but he had bought it.
Whew, I thought.
I approach my room. I recognize my door, with a sparkly sign on it. I prepare to open it and get the card, when I hear two pairs of footsteps walking towards the door.
I quickly hide on the nearest public restroom and wait until they are gone. Then I seize the few minutes and dig around until I find the pretty pink card.
Bingo, I feel accomplished.
I sprint out of the room. Out sight, out of mind. My heart is racing from the adrenaline. I hear footsteps once again and then don't have time to hide, but they aren't Anna and Danica's, thank goodness.
So a scrawny woman and a half-starved man walk by, holding hands. They pay no mind to me.
I run out of the front lobby, after scanning the card and giving me fingerprint. I make a mental note to grab a pair of gloves so that no one tracks my fingerprint.
I whistle for a taxi, who appears immediately. The driver is a black woman, maybe in her thirties.
"Come on in, sugar." She says. I smile in return.
"Where are you going today?" She says, ready to punch in coordinates.
"To the nearest airport, please." I say, handing her the card.
"Alrighty then," She takes off and hands the card back to me. On the way to the airport, she makes small talk, which I make it through with ease, mostly lying about my guardian and where I lived. But she eats it all up. It's absolutely hilarious.
We arrive at the airport in a surprisingly fast 15 minutes.
"Goodbye sugar! Have a wonderful time at California!" She waves goodbye.
"Thanks! You have a nice time to!" I reply and wave, too.
The airport is big. Like, really big. I manage to find the receptionist desk and purchase a one-way first class ticket to Mocaane, the most northeastern part of Canada American Airlines flies.
I'm in gate D14. The waiting room is empty except for a couple of ethnic people on business. I wait anxiously for my 12:00 flight. I check my watch, 11:14 am. Just a few more minutes and they will be boarding us. I break out my iPod and play angry birds. After a few minutes, the voice over the intercom announces the boarding of first class. I'm the only one except for a Parisian woman.
On the plane, the flight attendant is an older woman, but a handsome young man. His chisled jaw matches his shaggy blond hair perfectly. That's when I notice that the lady has a son that looks around 12 years old. He notices me too. I can tell by his jaw dropping at me.
He asks his mom if he can sit next to me, and she says yes. So he comes over to me and asks if he can sit. Of course, I accept.
"I'm Cameron, by the way." He says. He looks more like and American rather than someone from Paris. He has short, copper hair and faint freckles.
"I'm Anna." I smile at him without realizing it.
The flight attendant, the boy, comes around with little bags of potato chips, which me and Cameron both take a bag.
As we lift off, the ground is getting smaller and smaller. It's isn't until five minutes later that we're above the clouds and the seatbelt light turns off.
"What's that bracelet on your wrist?" Cameron asks.
I try to hide my arm, "Oh, that. It's nothing. Just a stupid bracelet," Which wasn't a lie. The bracelet is stupid.
"No, there's something written on it. Can I see?"
"No. I hate to come off rude, but this bracelet would creep you out."
"I get creeped out all the time," He insists.
"Okay... If you say so."
I show him my bracelet. He realizes how creepy my bracelet is.
"Oh. I wasn't prepared for that." He says.
"That's why I didn't want to show you, because then we wouldn't be friends anymore." It hits me what I just said right after I say it. Is he really my friend? Could he help me on my mission to find Master Ian?
What am I thinking...? A stranger, someone that I just met, coming with me.
Cameron pulls up his left jacket sleeve, "But we're still friends, because I have one too."
I see the yellowish white paper that reads:
Name:Cameron Chinc Age:12 Weight:96.7lbs Mission:Anna Arangale
"I have to come with you, and find someone named... Master Ian or something like that." He puts down his jacket sleeve, and smiles at me, "Your last name wouldn't happen not to be Arangale, would it?"
"I think it is." I check my bracelet. "Yep."
"Perfect. Hey Anna, dang it Anna!" He says.
"What? What's wrong!" I say.
"You make it so tempting."
"For what?"
"To kiss you."
The phrase is so easily said, the words carry no shame. But I think of something smarter.
"Well then if it's so tempting, then go ahead and do it!" I remark to him, thinking my reverse psychology will work.
It's so lighting quick I can barely even tell that it happened. He leans forward, plants a big kiss on my cheek, and turns back around. Like it never happened.
"I didn't think you'd actually do it..." I say.
"Really? Do I not seem ambitious enough? Is it not clear that what I want, I get? Actually, the while fact that you were gonna use reverse psychology on me just made me want to even more." He proclaims.
"It's pretty clear now."
"Good. Next time I want something, you just say what you feel like saying and maybe it can convince me not to do it." He gives a sly grin. "Maybe."
"Can I feel like saying what I feel like saying anytime I want?"
"Well sure. Have at it."
"You're really cute, and have a nice smile."
Cameron takes everything like a brute. "Why, thank you ma'am, and might I say, your eyes shine like the crystal waters that Hawaii contains."
Geez, this guy is poetic. Even though I've come close to Cameron in just a few hours, I can't help but thinking, what if Cameron does kiss me again, but succeeds?
