I heard the horn before I’d even woken up. I knew it was Jazz waiting for me outside, probably freezing from the cold and yet I didn’t care. I was in my dream land and nothing bothered me when I was in my dream land. It was a place where I could escape from reality and be in a world where I controlled it. I could decide what happened and who lived there. Normally, it was me, mum, Jazz and my dad. All of us together, my family and my best friend. However, ever since Alec had become my neighbour, he had started creeping in my dreams. Now and then he would appear suddenly as a blur or appear for a short period of time. But as the nights went on he appeared more and more into my dreams. It was like he was pushing my family out of them and replacing them. What shocked me was I didn’t care. I liked him in my dreams, being my prince charming. Sweeping me off my feet and carrying me to safety.

Right now we were both fighting the evil queen who had the face of Keira. We sliced her fake breasts, stomped all over her caked face and shredded her designer clothes. I could feel myself smiling. We’d just finished defeating Keira; she was lying in a pool of her own blood. To be honest, it was the best I’d ever seen her. To seal the defeat Alec and I was about to share a kiss. Our faces were inches apart when a voice broke me away from my dream.

Everything seemed to dissolve like paint dripping from a wet canvas. Alec was fading away and no matter how hard I’d call out he kept on fading.

“Lea! Lea! Lea, wake up!” the voice called.

Reality soon closed in and before I knew it I was lying in my bed, with Jazz towering above me. She was right in my face which caused me to scream and fall of my bed.

“Jesus Christ Jazz, you could have killed me!” I yelled rubbing my elbow where I had fallen on it.

“Exaggerating a little but aren’t we little Lea,” Jazz smiled holding out her hand.

I gladly took it smiling back at her.

“You interrupted a very good dream,” I explained once I was standing up.

“Oh, I heard. You were muttering in your sleep. It was quite funny watching you actually.” Jazz was proper grinning which made my blood run cold.

Oh God! What was I saying in my sleep?

“What did I say?” I gulped.

“Something about Alec,” Jazz was grinning even wider.

“W-well it was probably about… um… uh,” I was lost for words.

“You didn’t let me finish Lea. You were saying something about Alec and killing something. I’m guessing it was about killing Alec ‘cause you were smiling in your sleep.”

I let out a sigh of relief. Sometimes I was so grateful that Jazz was so clueless.

“Oh, oh right. Yeah that’s exactly what I was dreaming about,” I laughed which probably sounded a bit too high pitched.
