(Y/N POV)
A door opens behind Nate, and in file seven people. Three men, one with a long beard and grayish hair, a blonde cocky looking guy, and a brown haired man in shaggy clothing. Two women, who look like sisters, with long brown curly hair, and in dresses that are too tight. And finally, a child. He can't be more than ten years old, maybe less, and he looks— so small, and afraid. But he's holding his shoulders back and standing with the rest, even with his lip slightly quivering. I look towards Nate with wide eyes, but he doesn't make eye contact with me or anyone. He simply stands stoically, like a soldier. I'm gonna bat him one when this is over. And I will have words with General Ophelia too. A woman walks in, wearing a grey suit with a white blouse underneath. Her blonde hair is pulled back in a tight bun, and she looks very—prim, and proper.
She must be higher up on the Angyellos totem pole. "Today, these prisoners will be punished for their crimes. And will be the subjects of training for these elite trainees. Each trainee is assigned to a prisoner, with one saved for Nathaniel, as he will be demonstrating." She gestures to Nate, and he gives a nod. He demonstrates on another shaggy clothed man. He holds up his hand, a glowing light shines, and then the man falls to the ground. They didn't even say what he had done. Then the woman turns to the rest of us. "First up, is a rogue from the farming district, who shot at four unarmed men, with an unauthorized weapon." The woman states. "They were stealing from my crops! What was I supposed to-"
"Silence please!" The woman cuts him off. Okay I do not like this at all. I start to look around the room. Maybe there's something I could do. "He has also been reported as being mentally unstable, and the drunk of the district. He has more than one incident of trouble on his hands." She finishes. The man just keeps his head down. Like he's given up. "67, please step forward and carry out your order." The woman says, gesturing to the first trainee in the line. All the trainee uniforms have numbers on them, and I guess that's what they're called out by. The trainee steps forward, not a single sign of emotion on his face. He holds his hand up an inch from the mans face, and suddenly light burst from his hand. The man lets out a blood curdling cry of pain, but then it stops and he falls to the ground, his eye sockets sizzling. I want to throw up. The woman then makes the other shaggy clothed man step forward. "This man, also from the farming district, has been caught stealing on multiple accounts..." She continues speaking, but I've zoned out completely. There's got to be a way to save the boy. What's happening to the men and women is awful, but at least let me save the boy. I look over to Nate. He meets my eyes.
You're going to try to save him, aren't you?Comes into my head. What the-
Is this that talk-to-each-other thing that Angyellos have? I say in my head towards him.
Yes.
Well then in that case, of course I'm going to save him. What the hell is going on in this place?
It's just protocol. Although I do believe we should help the child. We may run into difficulties with the General though.
I could care less about Ophelia. That boy WILL make it out of here alive. If I have to die trying.
Alright. Just- use caution please.
Caution is for sissies.
I then look away from him, and start to analyze our situation. There's loud speakers in the corners of the ceiling. Hmmm. I look back at Nate.
What are those speakers for?
Announcements. And the fire alarm. Why?
I smirk at him, and he gives me a worried look. I knit my fingers behind my back, and clear my throat loudly to get Miss Priss' attention."Excuse me but um, is there anywhere that I could, you know, relieve myself? Or is that allowed at our little smite party?" I ask. I notice the blonde prisoner smirk slightly at my sarcasm. I look at Nate.
I'm the distraction. You get blondie and the child out of here, and I'll meet you in the hall.
"Well I do suppose you're more human than the rest of us. Hurry up then." Miss Priss says. "Very kind of you." I sass. I nonchalantly walk out the doors of the training room, and look around for an alarm switch. I know there has to be one around here. I go down past a door or two, and spot a red lever that says 'EMERGENCY ONLY'.
"Yahtzee." I say, and yank the lever down. Sirens immediately blare, with red and white lights flashing. I head back down the hall. People are coming out of doors in a slight panic, everyone moving at once. "Nate?!" I call out, looking through the crowd. "Y/N! Over here!" I hear him shout. I whip my head around, trying to follow the sound of his voice.I start to head that way, when someone grabs my arm. I look up. "General! Let go!" I start to tug my arm from her grasp, but she doesn't let go. "You're the one who tripped the alarm, aren't you?" She says pointedly. I glare at her. "So what if I am? I won't tolerate a child being hurt." I argue. Two other Messengers apear next to me, and take both my arms. "Let me go!" I shout. "They are only escorting you to your room, you'll be safe there." Ophelia says. "I have to find Nate!"
"Nathaniel will be fine."
"If you hurt him-"
"No harm will come to your friend. Now go." She says, and the Messengers teleport me to my room...

(Nathaniel POV)I'm the distraction. You get blondie and the child out of here, and I'll meet you in the hall.
Y/N is then excused from the room. She is very stubborn, which is much different from the normal characteristics of an Angyellos. Polemistis are warriors sure, but even the Warriors have orders, and rules. The smiting practice continues, which results in the two female prisoners demise. The child is next, leaving Gabriel, a fellow Messenger, the last. He has rebelled many times, and is quite the trickster. We used to be very close, and fought battles together, trained together. But he set a group of riot prisoners free, which led to his arrest. "This child, has been caught stealing multiple times from the market, caused endless mischief around his district, and causes fights in training school." Hannah says. Hannah is a secretarial Angyellos, shes the one who's been listing the faults of the prisoners. "And that's enough to smite him?" I blurt out. Everyone looks at me. "Do you have an objection Nathaniel?" Hannah raises an eyebrow at me. I start to back down, but I remember what Y/N would do. "He's- just a child. He doesn't deserve to die." I stand my ground.
General Ophelia then teleports in front of me. "Are you coming against protocol Nathaniel? You know we don't tolerate that." She says, a glare forming on her face. Just do what Y/N would do, I tell myself. "Uhhh....screw protocol?" I say, as more of a question then a statement. I don't understand some of Y/N's choice words, but 'screw' is one I've heard many times. "I beg your pardon?" Ophelia blinks in surprise. I clear my throat uncomfortably. "I meant, why must we follow such protocols? Do they even state that a child should be a subject of smiting practice? He's innocent." I defend. "You're questioning authority Nathaniel. It isn't your job to decide who does and doesn't-"
"Get slaughtered?" I interrupt. I feel more confident in my argument now. I've had questions like this and more on my chest for a while. General Ophelia gets an even angrier look on her face. Everyone else in the training room is looking at me with widened eyes. "Nathaniel, you are-"Before she can finish, the alarm siren starts to blare. Everyone in the room starts moving all at once, and I immediately rush towards Gabriel and the child. "Hurry, if you want to escape." I say to the elder Angyellos, and grab the child's hand. I'm practically dragging them out the door. This was a TERRIBLE idea Y/N. A slight feeling of panic settles on my chest, but I ignore it. I catch sight of Y/N's curly hair as we enter the hallway. "Y/N!" I call out. "Nate?!" I faintly hear over the crowd and sirens. "Y/N! Over here!" I shout again. The crowd is now pushing me, Gabriel, and the child away from the direction of Y/N's voice, and I can no longer hear her. I turn and follow the crowd. I'll have to find her later. Please be safe. I silently pray in my head, for Y/N, and in hope that this will end alright....
