Hanji's POV
The smile on my face never ceased to exist. Running the news throughout my head was always satisfying. No matter how many times it ran past my head... the fact of the child inside of me... was always fascinating. Little kids are such... are just... beautiful.
"Hanji, you okay?"
"Hm?"
I looked up, seeing Levi continuing to drive on the way home. He gave a quick glance at me, but he continued to drive forward. "You were smiling like an insane person. What was that about?"
I chuckled a bit, leaning back in my chair, rubbing my growing baby bump. 6 months already... and it had grown such a size. "Just the baby... I didn't expect it- did you, Levi? Expect our baby to be-"
Levi lifted a few fingers off the steering wheel- almost to telling me that it's fine. Waving it off, especially. "Come on, Hanji. I was there when the doctor's announced it. It was a 50/50 chance. Either way- I was okay with whatever the baby was going to be. Either way... I would always love them."
"That's good..."
"Anyway, let's get back to the kids- I think they're getting a bit anxious. We're a bit behind on time..."
My eyes rolled softly and I scoffed just a bit. "Well... it's not my fault that someone let it slip to the kids that we were leaving to see the baby's gender. Now they're riled up so much... Farlan and Isabel can't seem to lay them to get a nap. By the time we get there... they'll be so exhausted... they might not keep their eyes open when we tell them about-"
"Hanji... calm down..."
"But-"
"Hanji." He smiled softly as he continued to drive at a steady pace. "It's alright. The kids will be fine. I promise you that. You're the one getting riled up. So why don't you take a nap? We should be there in... 20 minutes or so. I don't want to hear a grouchy Hanji Zoe in the car."
I chuckled a bit, leaning my head against the head of the chair. My eyes slowly fluttered close as this wave of exhaustion washed all over me. "N-Night..." I whispered softly. Little did I know how much sleep I needed.
* * *
"Hanji... oi... Hanji. Four-eyes."
Snorting awake, I gasped for air. "L-Levi?"
He chuckles softly, holding out his hand and helping me out of the car. "Welcome back home, Hanji. Kids are all waiting for you."
"You didn't...?"
A soft smile on his face warmed my heart as he kissed me. "Of course I wouldn't say anything to the kids. You don't think that I would bring the mother of my child along to tell our kids about their sibling? We do it together."
I chuckled softly, walking with Levi by my side as we walked inside.
Instantly, the kids swarmed us once we got inside the house. Their questions filled my mind- my thoughts weren't even allowed to be heard by my own conscious. Soon enough, the kids calmed down for me to answer their questions. I smiled softly, carefully kneeling on the ground.
"Mommy...?"
"Do you guys want to hear about the baby?"
"Uh huh!" They called out together, holding their pride gleefully. "Tell us!"
"Well... I smiled softly, chuckling a bit. "It's a girl. You guys are gonna get a little sister."
There were both mixed views. Eren was a bit disappointed, knowing he wasn't getting a brother. Although, Iris was smiling and bouncing with glee. She was the one who predicted a brother. Farlan and Isabel was chuckling a bit, giving their congratulations to Levi as I dealt with the kids.
"Aw... not a boy...?" Eren says with a slight pout. "I wanna have a brother..."
Behind me, I could hear Levi somewhat choking on something- his tea, perhaps?
"You wanted a brother...?" I looked back to Levi, seeing his hand on his chest- probably trying to catch his breath. Levi gave me a look, rolling his eyes a bit with curiosity. Maybe he wasn't ready to try for another boy once this little one was born. "Well... you gotta ask your dad, Eren."
As soon as Eren tried to open his mouth, Levi sternly said: "No."
"Aw..."
"Eren, we'll talk more about it soon. But right now- just appreciate you're getting a little sister. If you're gonna be a good boy- we'll chat about another sibling."
Eren nodded his head, shamefully looking down. I kissed his forehead, chuckling a bit. "Oh Eren... I know you'll just be a good, big brother. You and Iris."
Iris hugs her brother, smiling softly. "Don't worry, Mommy! We'll be big siblings! Eren, remember? We have a surprise for Mommy?"
Snapping out of his disappointment, he nods his head and runs into his room. Iris trails after him. "Surprise? For me? Say Levi, do you know what they're talking about?"
Levi shook his head, "Nope. No idea. Farlan, do you?"
The two friends shook their heads, not knowing what the kids were talking about. A few moments later, the thunder of the tiny running feet grew louder. I turned to see that the kids returned with a few drawings. There was one in particular that I loved at first sight.
Eren and Iris held it up, pointing to the figures. "That's meant to be Daddy, Mommy." Eren says.
Iris began with the kids. "That's Eren, and that's me!"
I pointed to the little object that was between Levi and me. "What's that supposed to be, kids? I don't know what it is."
"That's the baby!"
"Is that so?"
I chuckled softly, seeing the creature as a tiny baby. "Uh huh, Mommy!"
Eren lays his head gently on my baby bump, rubbing it. "W-What's her name gonna be, Mommy? Can I name her too?"
Levi leaned down, picking up the child and chuckling a bit. "We'll think about it, buddy. But no promises, okay? I can't promise that you can name your baby sister."
"Oh..."
"You understand that... right?"
He nods, hugging his father with pride. "Okay then. But... you do owe Iris her $5... right...?"
