"So basically, Bats thinks this chick is a murderer and wants you to find out," a disembodied voice said, words accompanied by the sound of rustling in the pantry. "But you think she's hot – that's the issue, right?"
Dick leaned against the doorframe. "You make it sound easier than it is."
A red mop of hair appeared from behind the kitchen cabinet doors, a biscuit in Wally West's mouth and another box in his arms. "It doesn't sound too complicated to me," he said in between bites. "And doesn't Bats have a villainess as a girlfriend too?"
"Selina doesn't kill people, man – not intentionally, anyway. Besides, they're on and off."
"Well, you and this chick aren't even on yet, dude." Wally stated. He zoomed over to the living room couch, becoming no more than a red blur and a gust of wind. Being Kid Flash, Wally was incapable of walking even the smallest distance once there was no need for secrecy.
Dick joined his best friend, who was already flicking through channels at the speed of light. "I don't know if she's a murderer. I don't even know for certain if her family is."
"Artemis's family are murderers, and you don't see us having any issues." Wally popped another biscuit in his mouth. The Flash's nephew and the proclaimed niece of Green Arrow had gotten off to a rocky start within the team, but within the last five years, they had stopped denying their chemistry. Frankly, Dick thought that Wally and Artemis were the perfect couple.
"Yeah, but Artemis doesn't kill people, no matter how much she says she's going to."
"She only does that when she's ticked off." Wally said dismissively. "Which is something Arty has in common with this Faye chick of yours."
"Faye doesn't hand out death threats."
"No, but she does threaten to sue everyone she talks to, which is basically the equivalent to the people you go to school with."
"Artemis went to Gotham Academy too, you know."
"Uh, yeah; I couldn't forget the number of times she's complained about her classmates even if I tried. Which brings me to this question:" Wally paused for a second as he swallowed. "Faye sounds like the type of chick the newspapers think you would hang out with, and not in a good way."
"You mean typical, spoiled, rich girl."
"Exactly, so why the hell do you like her?"
"She's..." Dick racked his brain. It wasn't that he couldn't think of anything – it was that there was so much he wanted to say. "She's funny, she's pretty, she's smart..."
"Hold up," Wally interrupted him. "I'm going to stop you right there."
Dick frowned. "What?"
"All the things you just said describe me too, you know."
"That's debatable."
"Hey, I'm funny, pretty, and smart." Wally said defensively.
Dick sighed impatiently. "Alright, what's your point?"
"My point is why are you suddenly going after a civilian, when everyone you've dated before has been either part of the team, or affiliated? What makes her so special?"
That made Dick hesitate for a second. He thought back to the first times they had met, as Dick Grayson and Robin respectively. The answer to Wally's question came immediately. "Faye doesn't like me."
"What? Then why are you trying?"
Dick shook his head at Wally's bewildered expression. "That didn't come out right. I meant that she didn't like me before she knew me, and she didn't pretend to either."
