Chapter 3

"Hi!" The boy smiled. "I'm Blaine: head of the Warblers... or at least that's what most people know me by."

Kurt didn't speak. Instead, he nodded, not wanting to risk further embarrassment that his face was already providing.

"You must be Kurt, right? I heard we'd be roommates from Principal John."

Kurt nodded again, slowly. Blaine tilted his head to one side, slightly confused by the nonverbal response. Kurt then resumed unpacking his clothes as if there wasn't anyone next to him. He figured it was best, seeing as most wouldn't want to be bothered with him anyway.

"So... Do you mind if I help you with your stuff?"

Kurt turned to face him, not truly understanding the question. He didn't mean helping Kurt... right? If he had, there was a prank behind it. There had to be. He quickly shook his head no.

"No as in you don't mind or no as in 'don't touch my stuff.'"

Blaine had been trying to get the taller boy to smile at least once, but it didn't work.

"I-I didn't mean it like that..." Kurt whispered.

The waver in Kurt's voice is what caused Blaine to stop smiling.

"Are you okay?"

This had to be a joke.

Where are the bullies in this stupid place? I'm not an idiot! If you're gonna beat me up, just get it over with!

His thoughts didn't match his appearance. He looked absolutely petrified. Just as Blaine was about to question it, someone knocked on their door. Of course, Kurt flinched yet again. Blaine went to open the door.

"Hey..."

"Heylo!" Blaine smiled. "Where's my five bucks, Jeff?"

A blonde haired boy entered their room, whilst pulling out his wallet.

"For the record, Mrs. Ferris lied to me and told you all something different."

"Yeah, sure." The gelled boy laughed. "I can help you with it after school if you like?"

Jeff quickly accepted, knowing Blaine had nearly perfect grades.

"Who's this?"

"That's Kurt... He's my new roommate."

"That's K-" Jeff gasped. "T-thats him?"

Both Blaine and Kurt were totally confused by that reaction. Then something dawned on Kurt. What if they'd told every one!? What if they'd told everyone about Kurt's past!? The bullying, his mother, McKinley in total!? He grew pale just thinking about it. Blaine quickly elbowed him, silently telling him to shut up.

"I'm sorry, Jeff and I need a second."

They went outside the dorm, making Kurt imagine the worst things they could possibly be talking about.

"Jeff! That was rude! What the hell!?" Blaine said, angrily.

"That's the transfer from McKinley! Don't you remember?"

"Why does that matter?"

"He was with Angel!"

By the time the song was over, Kurt was sure his face would be a permanent shade of red. He was the center of attention, something he never wanted to be. Surprisingly, Blaine's voice wasn't what he'd expected. It sounded like a hundred different birds finding their way into the light and out of whatever hole they had dug. It was calming, and probably the only reason Kurt didn't pass out in fear.

"So, what did you think, Kurt?" Jeff smiled.

"Was it as gay as you imagined?" Someone laughed.

Blaine immediately glared at him, seemingly shooting daggers just by looking at him. Kurt wasn't going to say he really enjoyed the comment, but that look Blaine gave him was probably a bit unnecessary. As soon as he saw who had said it, he looked away. Everything was fine until he saw the boy's hair. It was so artificial, he looked like he could've been a part of CW productions!

"Shut the hell up, Sebastian!" Nick said.

"Are you okay?" Someone else asked.

Kurt didn't have the courage to look up and see who it was. He quickly closed his eyes, telling himself there weren't a bunch of teenagers staring at him. At that point, Blaine (being the person he was), went over to where Kurt was sitting in hopes of getting to the bottom of whatever was going through Kurt's brain.

"I-I'm fine..." Kurt finally whispered. "The song was cool..."

He stood up and walked away from the group to catch his breath. Blaine felt the need to give Kurt his personal space, but at the same time, he couldn't help but wonder if Kurt was actually okay. The way he saw it, if someone says they are fine, they probably aren't fine. It just always seemed to be the case.

Kurt went back to the maze of dorms, searching for his own. When he finally got there, he took the metal box from his satchel and opened it up. Inside were the blades he remembered. He was about to pick one up before someone knocked on the door. He quickly shoved the box under the blazers in his dresser drawer.

Kurt slowly went to see who had knocked on the door, and wasn't shocked to find Blaine. He opened the door to let him in even though he would have preferred to be alone. The taller boy hoped Blaine wouldn't ask any questions. The last thing he needed was to start crying in front of someone he just met.

"What's wrong?"

Shit. Kurt didn't answer. Instead, he put away the rest of his clothes in silence. Kurt had only glanced at Blaine when he saw them: his eyes. It was like his eyes were forcing the words out of him and he knew if he didn't look away, he'd tell Blaine everything! That couldn't happen. He tore his eyes away from the hazel orbs that were Blaine's eyes and quickly cleared his brain. Blaine, unaware of the power in his eyes, sighed and chose not to question any further.
