Full of suprises

Johnny POV
I've been gone for a few months because of work and I have missed Kenzie and the kids. They aren't biologically mine but I consider them mine and I love them a lot. Me and Kenzie were friends when she moved back to la and it slowly progressed over time, we didn't start dating until about 3 years into the friendship

I knew her back in high school but we never really talked unless it was a thanks or bless you, we came from way different social groups at school and homewise so we really didn't go together but I knew she got pregnant at 16 and I hated when people would talk about it like it was them

She already had a 10 year old and an 8 year old which was great since I loved kids and I was their doctor at the time. I switched career paths from doctor to a stem scientist, it has definitely been a rocky relationship considering I am constantly in the move while she's here but we get over it pretty quick

Now she has a 16 year old and a 14 year old which are like my best friends and we get along great in my opinion,  I grew up with them but I don't really know what they see me as or how they really feel about me. I was in an Uber on the way to the house me and Kenzie bought a little over 6 months ago.

I could see that her car in the driveway so I knew she was home. I grabbed my suitcase and walked inside to see Mackenzie walking downstairs with a trash bag, "do you need help" I asked and she practically jumped into my arms "I missed you" she says "I missed you too" I says setting her down

"Let me wash my hands then I'll be back" she rushed to the kitchen. The door soon opens and I see Mia and a few friends, I heard her scream then next thing I know she was hugging me "I missed you" she said "missed you too, but you have friends over do I'll talk to you later" I suggest and she nodded. They all went upstairs and I heard them talking about me which made me laugh

Kenzie soon came back and we had a bit of a makeout session before the back door opened "thank you for picking me up" Bella slammed the door "shit. I'm so sorry" Kenzie said "20 pounds, 1 mile" she said "here set it down" Mackenzie offered her help but she move to set it down on the table

"Dinner is ready. Tell Mia to kick her friends with it and come eat" Kenzie said and we both raised an eyebrow "we never eat together" I said "we are today, you just got back and why not catch up on stuff" she said "here, how about you tell Mia while we set the table" she left flipping me off. "Hugs" I opened my arms to Bella and she squeezed me tight "I have some stuff to show you" she smiled

Bella was my little engineer, we worked on small projects together and we made a robot for her birthday when she was 11. "What it is" I asked "it's a surprise. But you will be proud of me" she said grabbing the food and setting it on the table. Mias friends left and her and Kenzie came down quickly after.

We were all eating making small talk til the girls started whispering and I didn't take much mind into it since I did the same thing with my siblings. It started to get pretty heated and Mia yelled "just ask him" and I finally looked up "ask me what" I asked "nothing" Bella went back to her food. I was still confused til Mia handed me a paper

It was an invite to this daddy daughter brunch Bella's school has. Age already filled out the paper and I guess you have to fill out this survey and I didn't get to read it since Kenzie started talking. "So how's was everyone day" she asked "good. I got my prom queen crown today" Mia smiled "didn't you already get one" I asked

"That was just for show they give you a big sparkly one later" she said "nice. You will have to show us" I said and she nodded "what about you" I asked Bella "fine. I got my honor roll certificate" she shrugged "good job princess" I smiled at her "he smiled" Kenzie yelled "ok" I said

"You never smile, I mean you do but you never give a toothy smile" Mia said "oh. Well next time you will need proof" I said "no. That will take forever" Kenzie pouted "sucks" I joked and we just made small talk again. "we should have one of those family movie nights. But we need nice cream so I'll need to go to the store" Kenzie got up "Mia will you put away the leftovers" she asked grabbing the keys

She soon left sad we started putting everything away which we got fine with quick so I started washing dishes as they talked to me "girls I have a question" I said stopping. I've wanted to propose to Kenzie for a long time but since I'm back for a good amount of time I plan to do it sometime next week. I have to get the girls approval because if they dint think it's a good fit I don't want to make anything worse

"What's up" Bella said "you know I love your mom" I started and they nodded "I was thinking. What if I proposed" I asked and they both gasped "are you serious" Mia asked "yeah, I want to know if you would be ok with that. I know I was kinda forced into your lives and I never really knew how you felt about me" I admitted "well I love you, and I'm glad you asked for consent" Mia said

"I know this is dumb but I'm kinda scared" Bella said "what if you guys like don't love each other that much then get a divorce what's supposed to happen then" she asked "what do you mean" I asked "like some people do split parenting like you stay with your mom for a week then your dad is th-" my eyes got big. They have never referred to me as their dad and it felt weird

"Did I freak you out" she asked realization kicked in "a bit" I chuckled "I'm sorry, that's a big labor but I don't really know what to call you" she said "you can call me whatever you want, if you want to call me your dad you can and if you dint that's totally fine" I shrugged "can I call you dad" Mia asked "if you want" I said "good. That's what I call you when you aren't around, I do that around mom too and she just pretends not to notice" she giggled

"And to answer your question I don't plan of leaving your mom but if it does happen I will also get a house so you guys can come over if you want and you will have your own rooms like here" I said and she smiled "yeah. I do really want you to marry her" Bella said "thank you. But which ring" I asked pulling out 3 small boxes "you went ring shopping" Bella squeals "yeah, which one do you each like" I asked and they opened all 3 and examined them for awhile

Bella chose the a simple rose gold ring with an oval diamond with diamonds around the band. Mia chose a white gold ring emerald ring with a gold band leaving the big flashy one which I new they would leave out. "I personally would wear this one" the both said "but mom likes to let people know she isn't single so she would like this one" they pointed to the hidden halo oval ring

"Cool" I closed it and put back in my pocket "why''d you buy 3" Mia asks taking the ring out of the box, "I told you I wanted your consent, and you gave me the gift of consent and this is my gift to you" I said and Bella's jaw dropped "you bought us rings" Mia yelped "yeah, they are meant as gifts so I bought them" I said "you-this- wow" Bella looked at it closer

"Do you like them" I asked gaining self conscious "yes. It's just a lot" they said "you literally spoil us and never get anything in return and I feel so bad" Mia said "I got to raise you guys which was great" I said "I got suspended for stabbing a kid with a pencil was it really that great" Mia giggles through her tears "even that was great" I chuckled "How long have you had these" Mia asks "a year, I just never knew when was a good time" I said

Bell got up and hugged me "I'm sorry" she cried "why" I asked hugging her back "I was so mean to you for awhile and you still got one for me. I was being a bad daughter by lashing out at you" she cried "don't worry about it. You are allowed to be mad my little Bella B" I said "I'm back with 4 different ice creams" Kenzie opened the door "do it now" Mia said "no" I said "yes" Bella pushed me into the living room

"Hey. Where are the girls" she asked turning on the tv "can we talk" I asked "yeah" she seemed scared "It's good news I swear" I said and she nodded seeming tense. I sighed dropping to one knee and her eyes widened as I pulled out the box "I swear if you are proposing I will hurt you if you give me a sappy speech" she said wiping away her tears

"Fine no speech. But will you marry me" I asked and she nodded crying "yes I will marry you Johnny" she said and the girls cheered from the kitchen "I've literally been waiting for this since we started dating" she said "today is just so great" Bella said "we had that daddy daughter talk and you got engaged" she said "I built the arm that you scratched out it's just amazing" she said

"Was that my little surprise" I said and she nodded "i am
Proud of you" I said "not to be that person but I kinda wanna see the ring" Kenzie said and we all laughed. Today was a good day and I'm happy that things went as planned. It was full of surprises
