Chapter-15

I had been tossing and turning in my sleep. The whole text thing didn't really sit well with me. The fear of someone getting hurt keeping me awake. Finally sleep came but with a lingering fear. Fear of what might happen next.

The next morning I got ready and left for Jimin's place. I had texted in our group chat about the events of yesterday and as Claire and Bel were already hanging out with Jimin and Ethan at their place we decided to meet there. Cat and Lucas were on the way as well.

I reached and rang the doorbell , just as the door opened Claire and Bel engulfed me in a hug and bombarded me with questions about my well being. We sat on the sofa and soon Cat and Lucas were there as well. I narrated everything that happened yesterday and I could see them getting visibly uncomfortable and tense.

After having lunch Claire told me to go rest in the guest room. I won't deny that I looked a mess and needed some rest. After our talk, there wasn't much we could do because it was a private number but Jimin had told that he had some people he will talk to and see if we can find a possible lead. I sat on the edge of the bed and thought of where my life had lead me. Everything was fine a month back or so I thought. Maybe there always was something but I never saw it or maybe ignored it.
That's what we all do , don't we? We ignore all the red flags thinking they will go away soon or something better would come out of it and land ourselves here in a mess with no-one to blame but your own damn self.
I sighed a laid down on the bed. The soft sheets giving me comfort and it wasn't long when sleep overtook me.

I woke up and saw it was already 6pm. I slept for a good 4 hours. I stretched and washed my face and went down searching for my friends. As I walked down the last staircase I saw him sitting on the sofa reading something. He looked up and gave me a small smile.

"Where is everyone?" I asked and walked forward.

"Ohh noone's home. Jimin and Ethan had a meeting and Claire and Bel had to go with them so they could know the details too as now they're together. Cathrine got a call from home so she had to leave too. Lucas went to drop her. So it's just you and me." Zach said as if it was nothing.

"When did you get here?" I asked and regretted it. It sounded like I cared he wasn't here.

"Just a few hours ago. Why missed me?" He said and smirked. I rolled my eyes and picked up my bag ready to leave.

"Woah where are you going?" He said and held a hand in front of me stopping me.

"Home obviously" I said and pushed his hand aside.

"I'll drop you" he said and jogged to reach me and closed the door behind keeping the keys inside his jacket.

"I have my car. I can go on my own" I said and kept walking.

"I know. Lemme drive you. I'll drop you and go home" He insisted

"Just why? Why are you insisting on dropping me home. I'm not a kid!"
I exclaimed already irritated by his sudden change of behaviour. Last time I checked he didn't want anything and disappeared without informing anyone.

"I want to keep you safe." Zach whispered

"What?" I asked because I couldn't hear him properly.

"Nothing. Your friends will kill me if I let you go alone" he smiled and took the keys from me and got inside.

I sighed and got in looking outside the window. The car journey was silent , none of us wanting to break the silence. Until I squealed like a ten year old kid. Zach looked at me as if I had gone crazy.

"Stop the care. Stop the car now!" I told him excited.

He did as I said and I quickly got out and looked at the fair in front of me with stars in my eyes. I always loved fairs. They gave me a sense of joy and thrill. I loved the games and rides. Zach came running and stood beside me probably questioning my sanity.

"Can we go there please?" I asked my eyes eager and not leaving the place in front of me. I looked at him and he chuckled and nodded.
I ran inside , the smell of hot dogs , popcorn and different delicacies entering my nostrils and making my stomach growl. The fairy lights, children laughing and youngsters kissing and having fun made me smile. It was like everyone found a happy place for a while.

After practically dragging Zach with me on all the rides only the fairies wheel remained.
We were standing in line and when we were next I was excited to say the least but when I saw Zach's horrified face I couldn't control my laughter. I pulled him in and we sat and the wheel went up.

"Is the Alpha scared?" I said in between laughs.

"I'm not!" He said and masked his emotions but his eyes gave it away.

I scooted closer to him and held his hands looking at him , "you know you're a terrible liar" I smiled and looked outside.

"Look at that" I pointed to the big ballon floating in the air and giggled. For a moment everything was okay, I forgot about everything that concerned me. It felt like everything was so small when we rose higher. Every problem seemed it could be resolved soon.

Zach's POV

Everything felt like it would turn out for the best. Every moment I was experiencing now felt right. Maybe I didn't have to worry so much, maybe it won't be so difficult after all. When she pointed outside and left my hand, I gripped her hand and looked outside. I smiled and looked at her. She looked beautiful as if nothing worried her right now. When she pleaded me to go in with her and I said yes she looked like a kid in a candy store. Maybe it won't be easy but I was ready to fight for her. Even if we hadn't talked about us, just being with her even if she didn't even consider me as a friend right now didn't bother me much because I knew she somewhere trusted me and it confused her as well.
The ferries wheel came to a halt and we got down.

Zea practically rushed to the next ride. I chuckled and followed her. After torturing me through enough rides I told her I was done and to let's go eat. After hogging on everything we could lay our eyes on and stuffing our mouth with these delicacies we were done or atleast I was. Zea on the other hand was high. She was like a person who had sugar rush, she was that energetic.

"Zach let's go to the photobooth" she called out and I groaned and went where she stood.

We went inside and started making weird faces and some decent. I stooped down to her level to scare her when she wasn't looking. Just as I was about to scare her she turned and stumbled holding onto my shirt and my hands around her waist.
The click of the camera brought us out of our daze and she left my side and went to check the pictures.

"They're so embarrassing" zea said and laughed.

"Are they?" I asked and looked at them from behind her.

"Let's go. Its late now" I said and she nodded.

I parked the car in her garage and went to drop her till her doorstep. None of us saying anything but she broke the silence.

"I had fun today. Thank you" she smiled.

I nodded and smiled at her. "Goodnight Zea" I said and turned around leaving waving her goodbye.

She waved me goodbye and went inside her house.

I kicked the stone on the road and scratched my head smiling to myself. Maybe it was not so difficult after all.
