Gon was still confused about what just happened. But one thing he knew, now that Killua had said it loud and clear, he wanted to be friends with Gon. Which meant he must follow Killua. Friends help each other to get back on track and that was what Killua needed then. He needed to know that he wasn't alone and had Leorio, Kurapika and Gon by his side, no matter what.
"WHY WOULD YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT YOU-" Leorio was so extremely outraged, he could not find the words to describe how much he wanted to beat the living shit out of Illumi. But he wasn't alone on that matter. Kurapika had not moved a muscle since the incident between Killua and his brother, but he most definitely had the exact same intentions as Leorio.
Gon on the other hand did not want to waste another second uselessly standing around, blocking the way of other passengers who, thankfully, hadn't paid any attention to the previous fight.
"Leorio, Kurapika!" They both look his way. Gons body was facing the way Killua ran to but his head was turned to Kurapika and Leorio. The brown-haired man did not even need to see Gons face, he already knew what was trying to say. "I will find him, but I don't need your help, I can do this on my own", but in the nicest manner possible. The sun had set a few minutes ago, so the feeling of daylight was lingering in the streets.
From the outside, Gon's objective may have looked simple and fun. Finding Killua. But for Gon, that was only scratching the surface. What was he gonna do once he found him? Was he going to talk to him like a friend would? What should he say to comfort Killua? What if he couldn't even find him?
No, Gon was sure. He could see it replaying in his mind. He turns a corner and the first thing catching his eye is the boys white, fluffy hair. He would yell out his name and immediately go to comfort him.
"Killua..." Gon started panting slightly. The moon was illuminating the sleeping city. Gon felt like he was the only human on this earth. The ocean he was running along to was laying quiet. You could hear only his hasty footsteps and the huffing from his exhausted lungs. Not to say he was weak or did not have enough stamina to run for 30 minutes, but he wasn't concentrating enough on running, his only concern was to find his friend.
"Killua! Killua, are you here?! Where are you?!"
"Gon..." Killua spotted the green-haired boy before he could see Killua. He was sitting on the roof of an abandoned building. It was still rather intact, despite of the fact that no one was taking care of it. The moonlight was shining gently on Killua's face, giving him a warm feeling of comfort and safety. The same feeling he got around Gon. Gon, who was searching for him directly under his feet. He had tried to find Killua this whole time.
Killua felt bad. He did not want to make such a big fuss about his family situation, nor did he want to burden anybody, especially not Gon. He didn't need to annoy his friends with his problems. But seeing Gon chasing after him made Killua feel so guilty.
If he was honest, he was more grateful than anything. He found someone who deeply cared about him. If someone would've asked Killua from three weeks ago "Do you think anyone would miss you if you left without a word?", he would not even have to think twice. "No, no one would.", is what he would have answered then, but now... Now he could proudly say that, yes, there would be someone who would miss him. Quite frankly, he hadn't even disappeared, but that person was already searching like his life depended on it. Shaking his head, he pushed himself onto his feet and yelled down: "GON, I'M UP HERE!"
He swiftly turned his head up to the direction of the sound. His hazel-brown eyes lit up in relief when he spotted the silver-haired boy up on the rooftop. This hour of running that felt like an endless cycle of disappointment finally paid off. He found what he was searching for, and not only that, but Gon noticed that Killua was smiling. He was glad to be found.
"Do you want to explain what happened between you and your brother?" Gon asked carefully. He did not want to hurt Killua or make him remember anything bad, but he was too curious. Both the boys were laying on the cold ground, which was overgrown with different types of weeds, staring into the clear sky and thinking about the previous day. Killua was awfully quiet, making Gon regret the decision to ask his friend about the previous incident. But what Gon did not know is that Killua just had to think of the perfect way to express the things that were going through his head.
"I guess my relationship with my family is rather... complicated, as you may have noticed." Gon turned his head, studying Killuas features, who did not even bother to look back down from the night sky. "My parents didn't let me have friends and it made me feel lonely. I couldn't talk to anyone about anything. And three years ago, I started to be irritated more easily and after some time even didn't feel like waking up in the morning anymore. I felt so empty all the time, like nothing could make me feel happy. Until..."
Killua glanced at Gon and their eyes met. He couldn't finish the sentence, but he knew exactly what he was about to say. Only thinking about that made his heart skip a beat. Gon on the contrary was clueless as to what the end of that sentence would be, but he could feel this weird tension coming from Killua.
No... it wasn't coming from Killua. It felt closer to Gon himself than he had thought before. Not that he had something against that. It felt warm and made his stomach all fuzzy, he just couldn't explain why. And it wasn't the first time he felt this between them. For the past week, there had been a weird energy laying in the air between them. He never felt something like this but he heard about from Leorio. He stated that this is what a spark feels like. But Gon could not agree with that. He had never been in love before and now to have fallen for someone he just met was impossible.
"Gon? You're staring at me, is there something in my face?"
Killua was desperately trying to play the blush on his cheeks off as nothing to worry about but failing miserably, since, if he hadn't pointed out Gon zoning out, the green-haired boy would have never noticed it.
"No, I was just thinking about..." , he paused for a second to gather his thoughts, "...today." He jumped up, now sitting up, bending over to Killua, who had leaned onto his elbows. "When you said you wanted to be my friend, I couldn't think of anything except that. It's really fun to be with you. Let's stay friends for much longer, Killua!"
The second Gon made his intentions known, Killua turned his head away from Gon's beaming smile.
"You know how embarrassing that was?"
Gon barely heard him mumble "Stupid..." under his breath but it still made him chuckle.
"But..."
As he turned back to Gon, his heart rate calmed and everything quieted down. Gon, who didn't expect an immediate response held his breath, anticipating his friends response. "I want that too, Gon"
