I smiled to myself as I walked down the sidewalk, keys jingling in my pocket. I took in the warm sun as I crossed the road, watching the stop lights turn from green to red. When I got to the other side of the street, I stopped in front of a store window and looked at myself. I examined my outfit from top to bottom, admiring how it looked.
I was quite proud of my choice of style today, and I admired how my light brown hair rested right above my shoulders. I had gotten my summer tan a little early, seeing as today was the first official day of summer for me. School had just gotten out and I had graduated high school.
My green hazel eyes shimmered in the sunlight, and I fluttered my mascara covered eyelashes as I looked down to my shirt, a white v-neck red ringer tee which clung to my body against the summer heat. My mom jeans were pulled up to the end of my shirt and the white laces on my adidas superstars were tied in tight bows.
I had my favorite white scrunchie on my wrist and gold aviator sunglasses on the bridge of my nose. I finally turned away from the window and stepped forward, not watching where I was going and ran right into a guy,
"Woah there!" He said, grabbing me by the waist and pulling me up so I wouldn't fall. My cheeks turned bright red,
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going." I said, standing up straight. The guy laughed,
"Don't worry about it, it's not every day I get almost flattened by a pretty girl." He said, winking. I blushed even more,
"Oh- um- thanks..." I said, smiling shyly. He laughed and I looked up at him.
I was pretty tall, but he was definitely taller. I studied his wavy shoulder length blonde hair and his green eyes. He wore a dark grey Led Zeppelin tee-shirt and a jean jacket with the sleeves rolled up. He had on black ripped jeans and black boots and he wore a padlock on a chain around his neck. I looked back up at him and he flashed a beautiful white smile. I smiled back and he stuck his hand out for me to shake, which I took and smiled."I'm Duff." He said, still smiling. I could've collapsed right there in the middle of the sidewalk. I shook his hand,
"Sophia." I said, staring into his emerald eyes.
"Are you okay?" He asked. I nodded,
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay..." I trailed off, looking up at him. "Are you?" I asked,
What the heck Sophia? Of course he's okay, look at him, this guy could get hit by a bus and be okay. I thought to myself. Duff laughed,
"Yeah I'm okay." He said, smiling. I felt stupid, what a dumb question... "Hey, um I don't normally do this, but if you aren't doing anything right now would you maybe wanna... grab lunch with me? I don't have to be anywhere for about an hour." He said, still smiling.
Oh. My. God. Say yes! Say yes!
"Uh- yeah, why not? Let's do it!" I said, a little too enthusiastically.
My eyes widened, and Duff laughed. I blushed again. Duff and I walked down the street to an outdoor restaurant, chatting the whole way there. It was strange, I never normally did things like this; hung out with guys (or anyone, for that matter) that I had just met. But it was the first day of summer, I thought I'd step outside my comfort zone a little bit. Not to mention Duff was incredibly handsome, and seemed very polite and interesting when he first asked me to lunch. I admired his aura, he was mysterious and sweet, and I wanted to find out more about him.
"So, do you live around here?" He asked, pulling his sunglasses over his emerald eyes, shielding them from the sun.
"Yeah, right here in L.A. actually." I said, turning a corner.
