Charlotte sat with Puck on the stairs in front of McKinley, anxiously waiting for Blaine's car to pull up to the school.

After calling him and hesitantly alerting him of what had happened, Charlotte had expected him to do what Elliott always had: tell her what she already knew, freak out over what everyone else was going to think, and remind her that she was going down a 'dangerous path'. In fact, Blaine's reaction should've been even worse than Elliott's, especially after Charlotte had asked if she could stay at Dalton for the length of her suspension. She knew that they hadn't been seeing each other very long, but she figured that it was worth a shot. If he said yes, it would be a win-win for both of them, and her parents (along with Elliott) would never have to find out.

To her surprise, Blaine had only let out a deep sigh on the other end of the call, along with the reassurance that he would be at McKinley as soon as he could get in his car. Charlotte had been glad that he hadn't told her off over the phone, but she was sure that he would have something to say once he saw her.

After hanging up the call, Puck and Sam had come over to check on Charlotte, who had automatically distanced herself from the boys after leaving Sue's office. Based off of Sam's facial expression alone, Charlotte could tell that the boy was worried about what his parents were going to think of his eye, especially once the redness darkened into a much more noticeable purple bruise. Sure, she had sacrificed herself for him as far as suspension went, but there was no way to cover for his marked-up face.

Upon seeing Charlotte's eye again, Puck's fury made a return. He had immediately snuck into the empty teacher's lounge to make an ice pack, a small attempt to bring down the redness. When he came back and presented it to her as she was talking to Sam, he saw gratitude in her eyes for a brief moment before it faded. Charlotte had scolded him on the spot for not bringing one for Sam first, who had been in the thick of the fight. Puck rolled his eyes good-naturedly as she took the ice pack from his hand and began pressing it lightly to Sam's face instead of her own. Shaking his head, he had gone back to the lounge to make another for her.

As much as he loved that Charlotte was tough, held her own, and was a direct result of being around all of the Glee boys, it was all too easy for him to forget about how caring she was. When it came out at moments like this, he automatically found it annoying. However, it never failed to soften something inside of him not too long after. His best friend always made sure that everyone around her was taken care of before herself, and it was a quality that he had always admired and secretly wished that he had.

With Sam's face taken care of and the rest of the boys leaving to go home for the day, Puck had insisted on waiting outside with Charlotte until Blaine showed up for her. He was unfamiliar with the boy, and he didn't want to take any chances on leaving her alone. After all, he had promised that he would try and give Blaine a chance, and as hard as that was, he would do it.
