Voices. I heard countless voices. They seemed confused, lost even. I opened my eyes and saw a neighborhood. A hotel-like building in the middle and around it were various shops. The streets were filled with people rather than cars.
How am I here? I racked my brain for memories. The last thing I remember was turning into dust in the busy streets of New York. Is this Heaven? Who am I kidding, I'm going to hell. Everyone seemed normal, they were going about their daily lives.
"Did you just wake up?" I heard a deep, but soft voice from behind me.
I turned around and saw a man with long brown hair, his blue eyes were memorizing.
"Uh, yeah?" I said questionably, I have no clue what is happening.
"If you don't mind, allow me to show you around and fill you in," He offered a warm smile, "I'm James Barnes, but call me Bucky,"
"I'm YN LN, nice to meet you,"
"So you're probably confused," He said, "Welcome to the Soul world,"
"...The what?" I tilted my head.
"Follow me,"
I followed the new man around as we walked along the bustling streets.
"We're all dead," He said.
"That's reassuring," I said with a small smile
Bucky laughed, for some reason his laugh put me at ease. Who is he and why is he making me feel weird?
"This place is like Heaven, there's a room for everyone, the food and supplies are free, and well, you can do whatever,"
"Seriously?" I said shocked, "no strings attached?"
"Not that we know of. You're a bit late too, two weeks to be exact. Not everyone woke up here at the same time,"
"Do you happen to know a girl named Briza?" I looked into his striking blue eyes hopefully, "long curly brown hair, brown eyes, probably wearing her iconic 'Latina AF' shirt?"
"No sorry, was she a friend?"
"My only," I sighed.
"I can be your friend? I may be an Avenger but-"
"Hol up, you're an Avenger?"
I practically worship the Avengers, and here I am just chilling with one.
"The Winter Soldier," He said, a hint of sadness entered his eyes.
"Oh...but from what I heard, that wasn't you,"
We stood in the middle of the sidewalk just facing each other, I wonder what everyone else is thinking.
"I still did it," He looked down for a moment before meeting my eyes again with a smile, "Anyways, I'll show you your room!"
I smiled and followed him as he quickly walked over to the giant building in the center. It looked old but fancy. One of those hotels you'd beg your parents to stay in but always end up in the crappy one next to it.
Bucky went behind the desk and grabbed a small key.
"Room 107," He said and pointed to an elevator.
We stood next to each other silently, just staring at the closed grey doors. I cleared my throat awkwardly and we finally arrived at the correct floor.
"If you need anything I'll probably be in the gym, either working out or sparring,"
"Sparring?" I questioned, turning back to face him.
He smirked, "I can teach you to fight if you want,"
"Seriously? I never dreamed of learning from an Avenger,"
"It's not like we're celebrities. I guess they are but..."
"Hey, you are too! I learned about you in history class,"
The memories of Briza teasing me over my small crush on 'captain america's hot friend' flooded over me and made me blush.
He laughed, "I'll let you get settled,"
"Thank you!" I called before the doors closed again.
With a sigh, I found my room and slipped the key in. Maybe I'll take up his offer on learning to fight. I've always wanted to be badass.
