"Our love is made for movie screens."
♡♡♡
In the morning, I dragged myself out of the warm covers of my bed. I was hit with the foul taste of morning breath and made my way to the sink in the corner. Yes, the corner. My apartment, let me remind you, is a box. I washed my face and brushed my teeth. I scanned the room and there was no sign of Riley. On the fridge I saw a taped piece of paper. I snatched it off the door and in neat handwriting it read "going on a jog, be back soon xxx -Riley."
I crumbled the note and tossed it on the floor. I had my first shift at the cafe and I was not very excited. I turned on the shower and stripped out of my ninja turtle pajamas. After my shower I did my "daily routine" and I was ready to go. I grabbed my purse and phone, rushing towards the door. Looking at myself in the mirror, I cringed. The bags under my eyes were evident along with a few pimples. Eh, who cares? I sighed walking out and locking the door.
The cafe wasn't that long of a walk, maybe a block. I needed exercise so I decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator. By the time I was in the lobby I was gasping for air.
"You should really workout, hun." the ignorant bell hop, Rico said. I replied to his comment with the rolling of my eyes and my middle finger in the air. The crappy lobby smelled like cheap air freshener, weirdly enough I liked it. The doorman, Tony greeted me with a smile while, opening the door.
"Good morning, gorgeous."
"Uh-hi." I croaked. My face burned with embarrassment as I cleared my throat. Way to go, idiot. I scurried out into the flow of people on the sidewalk. I've learned that you got to walk fast to where ever you are going in New York City. I was at the cafe in nearly two minutes. A polite old man held the door for me. I muttered a quiet thank you and went over to the counter.
"You must be the new employee. What's your name?" a girl with faded pink hair asked.
"Madison." I answered quietly.
"Well Madison, my name is Hannah. You will be working the register today. Here put these on." she handed me a dull green apron and hat. "The manager, Frank, made you a name-tag. I'll go fetch it for ya." I just noticed her british accent. I love accents. She was very beautiful. She was short and pale. She pulled off the pink hair perfectly. The feeling of jealously vanished when she came back smiling with my name-tag. I returned the smile mumbling a "thanks". I put on the apron, name-tag, and hat. Yay work. Although, today there wasn't anybody coming to get coffee.
Hannah was reading a book in lounge area while I sat on the stool ready for my first costumer. I was close to falling asleep when the bell above the door jingled. I hastily wiped the drool off my chin and glanced at the customer.
"How may I help you?" I questioned with as much pep as I could muster. Glacing up I almost pissed my pants. There stood the awkward, Australian dork who ruined my life in 2011, just by singing. Lucas Robert Hemmings. He was wearing a friggin SnapBack and he was chewing on that friggin lip ring. I was about to melt into a puddle. His blue eyes were scanning me intently and I wanted to throw up. He finally smiled that award-winning smile. Bitch don't do that I thought.
"I would like a vanilla latte -oh- are you ok?" my face must have been red like a tomato. That is what happens when I'm nervous. Except, right in that moment it felt like my heart fell out of my butthole.
"OH YEah totally. Anything else I could get you for?- I mean anything else I could get for you?"
Luke giggled, "no, that'll be all."
"What size?" I managed to sqeak out. I felt the familiar burn on my cheeks.
"Excuse me?" Luke asked bewildered.
"For your cup. What size would you like?" Could you mess this up anymore, Madison?
Luke chuckled while looking at my name-tag. "I'll have a medium- er Madison." He smiled and it made my heart burst with happiness and my head throb from humiliation.
Suddenly, Hannah slid the vanilla latte over to Luke giving us a weird look. She strolled back over to the lounge and I stared back up at Luke.
"That'll be 4.98." I stated. Luke handed me a 5 dollar bill.
"Keep the change. I'll see you around, beautiful." he waved and exited out of the dinky cafe. Once, he was gone I started to hyperventilate. I had met my idol and it was the most overwhelming feeling. My body was filled with a whirlwind of emotions.
"No offense love, but he is just a boy there is no reason to freak out." Hannah commented. I didn't reply because she would never understand.
