Krystle could still remember Dev Patel in her house. Even though she was very young, she remembered her mother telling her to go inside the room.

"Dev Patel is-" Krystle was interrupted by a unfamiliar voice.

"Your mom's old friend."

On the staircase stood an old man with a protruding belly. Krystle could remember his face. His black eyes and a little stubble over his lower face. Both Karan and Krystle recognised him by his picture.

Dev stepped down from the rest of stairs and stood in front of the pair. His eyes took in Krystle's frame.

She's a replica of her mother.

Dev thought as he looked at her. Same green eyes stared at him. He merely gave a glance to Karan, knowing he was the agent he hired to protect Krystle.

"Come sit." He requested as he sat down on a sofa and Krystle followed his actions. He looked at Karan who was still standing. "You can sit too." He said, gesturing with his hand.

Karan said a small thank you before sitting next to Krystle. He didn't know what was going on here. The moment they entered this mansion, something clicked inside Krystle's mind, like she finally remembered something but before he could ask, Dev made his entry.

"I see, you have made yourself comfortable here." Dev spoke looking at the empty juice glasses and plates full of biscuits and chips. "So now, we can talk."

He was about to say something before his eyes met Karan, silently telling him to leave the two alone. Karan nodded and was about to get up when he felt Krystle's hand holding his. He looked at her, a little surprised but she was staring at Dev, challenging him.

"He'll stay." Krystle's words rang out in the quite house. Dev looked a little surprised by her action but quickly covered it up.

"Very well then." He replied.

Krystle turned her head to look at Karan whose gaze was piercing her side of head. Her eyes met his and she could see warmth in them. Karan searched her eyes as to decipher why she let him stay but she only smiled.

"Let's start." Dev interrupted their moment and both of their eyes turned to him.

After a heated conversation with Dev, Krystle came to know everything about her parents.

Her mother was Christian while her father was Hindu. They met in school and went to same college together. During the college, they both fell hard for each other. In their last year, they spent a night together leading to the pregnancy of her mother. Her father, Yash didn't want the baby and then both.

After 6 years of no communication and connection, he suddenly named all his inheritance in Krystle's name and that day Dev, Yash's friend, came to give her mother that only.

"So where are the papers?" Krystle inquired.

"It's in my bank account. Your mother contacted me a few months after we met and told me to keep the papers in her and Yash's joint bank account. She said she would take them when the right time comes but..." Dev sighed as he looked down.

She died.

Krystle wanted to finish but kept quiet.

"I wanted to meet you but your mother made me promise that day that I'll leave you alone. She didn't want anything with her past to connect with you but here we are."
He spoke as he looked at Krystle.

"Okay...I got all this but why is that Tony after me? What does he wants from me?" Krystle asked. She didn't know what that mafia leader wanted from her and that scared her the most.

"He is after your money. I really don't know how he got to know about your dad's money but now he wants it and he won't stop until he gets it." Dev answered darkly.

"How much money is there?" Krystle questioned. It had to be a big amount if a mafia leader is after it.

"21 crores."

"What!?" She exclaimed. She expected a big amount but not that huge.

"Yes. Your grandfather was a businessman and he only had one heir. So when he got to know about your father's illness, he transferred everything to his account and ordered the doctors to use all the money they want to treat his child."

Krystle nodded but she still couldn't grasp her head around the amount of money she had or was named under her. But then something came in her mind.

"What happened to dad?" Krystle whispered as she searched his eyes.

"He had brain tumor and it was too late." He answered looking down.

Krystle didn't press for more because she knew what happened after that.

"We should be going." Karan said suddenly as he stood up. Dev and Krystle followed.

"But my contract says that you have to leave her here. With me." Dev stated, glaring at Karan.

Karan knew that Dev wanted to protect Krystle but he couldn't trust him. There was something off about this whole situation that he couldn't put a finger on.

"Krystle, it would mean the world to me if you stayed with me for a few days. It would help me to sleep at night knowing you are safe with me in my house." Dev spoke as he held Krystle's hands.

"I.." Krystle looked at Karan to see him shaking his head. She looked back at Dev to decline but his old and wrinkly face reminded her of her father whom she had never met. She could get to know more about her father and maybe like maybe staying with him for a few days, she'll get to know what a father's love is.

"I.. I'll I'll stay with you for a few days." Krystle agreed and looked at Karan. Warning was written on his face. He was warning her.

But from what?

Karan waited for a few more seconds before lightly nodding his head.

"Okay then." Karan said. He averted his gaze from Krystle to Dev. "I expect the money to be transferred in my back account till morning." He stated.

A sting pierced through Krystle's heart as she heard Karan utter those words. It meant as if he was saying to her that she didn't matter to him. She was just his 'mission'. . She liked him but she wanted to spend some time with her uncle.

Why is he making a big deal out of it? As if she was in danger?

"Kar-"

Karan interrupted her. "K2." He corrected her, looking deeply into her eyes as if peeking in her soul.

It hurts. It hurts so much that Karan closed her off. And not letting her say his real name was the worst part of it.
She turned around as a single tear left her eye.

With one last look, Karan turned around and left the house, telling his mind that she does not matter to him. It was just an infatuation and she was safe. He was just overthinking things.

More specifically, telling his heart.
