Krystle
After Karan left, Dev showed me my room for the time being. It was a simple yet elegant themed room with creme colour walls and white furniture. A chandelier hung from the ceiling in the centre. In all, it was a beautiful room.

I sat down on the plush bed and exhaled loudly.

I really liked Karan and trusted him with my life but I also want to spend time with my uncle. He was the closest person to both my mom and dad. I knew about my mom but I wanted to know how was she when she wasn't so closed off. Before dad's death.

Dad.

He was wrong when he left us but God punished him for his sins. Even if he didn't meet me or my mom after I was born but him giving all his inheritance to me showed that in the end, he accepted me. People do mistakes but realising them and working to correct them is the deal. My dad realised his mistake but it was too late.

I hope I could meet him, see him just once.

Just once.

Wiping a stray tear from my eye, I wrapped my arms around my knees and placed my head on my knee.

I know that Dev doesn't give friendly vibes but most of the people at his age become cranky and are angry all the time but this doesn't that they are not good people. One can see warmth in his eyes behind all that anger. I know he would be caring towards me. And like I said, he was the closest person to my dad.

What could possibly go wrong I spend some days with him? Knowing about my dad and his relationship with mom.

Sighing, I pressed my forehead to my forearm.

Why are you making this more difficult Karan? As if staying with a complete stranger isn't difficult in itself?

Karan is also a stranger to me but I trust him. I need him with me in this situation, helping me, consoling me when I cry about my father and mother.

Knocking on the door brought me back to the present. I wiped my face and sat up straight.

"Come in." I announced.

"Dear, it's time to eat." Dev said as he entered the room with a plate. "I thought you wouldn't feel comfortable eating with me so I brought it here."

"There's nothing like that." I assured. "But still thank you." I spoke as he kept the plate on the coffee table.

He sat down beside me and took a deep breath. He turned his head towards me and stared, as if remembering each and every feature of mine before a pained expression came on his face.

"I know Krystle how that agent looked at you as if warning you of me. I also know his opinion doesn't matter to me but it surely matters to you and that is why you haven't left the room once after he went away."
He looked hurt. "You are wary of me."

"There's nothing like that uncle. You were the closest person to my family and you are to me also. What you said was correct. Karan's opinion matters to me but not this time. If he can't respect my uncle then he can stay away from me. Also, I'm not scared of you." I smiled as I told him the truth.

It hurts that Karan's opinion is not same as mine but I can't leave my only possible family behind because of him. For god's sake, I just met him. And this amount of blind trust will take me nowhere.

You just met Dev also.

A voice inside my mind said.

Dev's hand came on the side of my face and I shook that thought away.

I trust him

But you also trust Karan. And more than you trust Dev.

"Thank you." Dev spoke. "Tomorrow I'll tell you more about your mother and father. For now go to sleep. Okay?"

I nodded and passed him a smile. He stood up and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.

"God!!" I huffed out.

My mind is gonna kill me.

Taking off the shoes, I went to the coffee table and uncovered the plate. I didn't touch the food but picked up the dessert which was brownie with ice cream. I took the bowl and sat down on the side of the bed, resting my back against the back rest.

I grabbed my phone from the bedside table and unlocked it. Taking a bite from the delicious sweet, I scrolled through my Instagram feed and found nothing interesting. I opened WhatsApp and there was just one new message. It was from an unknown number.

Hi

Just a single message. I clicked on the person's profile picture and my heart skipped a beat.
It was Karan's picture. He looked dashing in his side profile, wearing all black with sunglasses.

Why did he messaged me?

I looked at the message and found out it was from morning when we were just about to leave for Dev's house. He had my number saved and wanted me to save too.

Throwing the phone on the bed, I ate the last bite of the dessert and kept the bowl on the bed side table.

If he had my number, he could message me and ask me how was I but no. He thinks I didn't trust him so I should not be his problem anymore.
Anyways, he completed his mission and will get his money tomorrow.

For him, I was just a mission.
