Øne
The last box seemed to be the heaviest, but I suppose that's what I get for procrastinating. Sophia had already finished moving her share of the boxes and was probably sitting in our new apartment.
I was about to give up on the elevator coming, when I heard the all too familiar ding followed by the doors opening. I stepped inside and put the box on the floor next to me, letting out a sigh of relief. The doors were about to close when someone stopped it with their foot. He stepped inside, not bothering to look at me, but at the panel of buttons to my left.
"What floor?" He asked, finally acknowledging my existence.
"Twelve."
He pressed the button labeled 12 and leaned against the wall, observing me for a second.
"Moving in?" He inquired.
"Yup, apartment 1212." I responded, observing the stranger standing before me.
"1213." He replied, a smirk making its way to his face. He brushed the fallen strands of hair out of his eyes, but kept his sunglasses on.
"Why are you staring at me?" I asked.
"Well you probably want me to respond like that kid from the cancer movie that's not about cancer, but in all honesty, I'm not Augustus Waters, and you're not Hazel Grace."
He laughed slightly, standing up straight. His laugh sounded like angels and I couldn't help but smile."But that doesn't answer my question."
"I've been curious about who was moving into that apartment for weeks now, and I'm glad I have an answer."
Before I could respond, the doors opened, and he was picking up my box. He carried it to my front door, not bothering to wait for me.
"Thank you." I said more like a question. He nodded, walking across the hall.
"What's your name?" I called after him, as I opened my door. He just turned around to face me, shaking his head.
"Last name?" I begged. He shook his head again, smiling at me. I decided that maybe if I offered my name, he would give me his.
"I'm Holl-"
"Holland, I know." he cut me off, opening his door, and walking inside. I stood there for a good five minutes before I entered my apartment. Take Me to Church was blaring through the apartment, and I was sure the neighbors would complain soon.
I walked into my room to find a note waiting for me on my soon-to-be bed. At the moment, it was just a mattress and the box that had my bed frame inside.
I wearily picked up the note, inspecting the outside of it for any clue of the identity of the sender, although I had a pretty clear idea. I opened it carefully, hoping there wasn't any toxic substance that could kill me upon contact.
Holland,
On the roof; 11:00pm
~a.i.The note clearly gave me directions as to what I was supposed to do. It was just up to me to decide if I would meet this 'a.i.' person on the roof.
So now elevator boy had initials. If only I could figure out what they stood for. I could either go on the roof tonight, and possibly be killed, or I could stay in my apartment with Sophia and we could finish unpacking.
I think my choice was obvious.
