Chapter one: "Just like her father"
Maya sighed while tapping the table. She was stuck. Maya recently graduated from university. She never thought out what she wanted to do after finishing school.
She could debate on becoming an art teacher, or music teacher. Maybe she could go back to school and study to be a nurse.
"I should've planned this out," Maya mumbled before taking a sip of her water. She scribbled notes down on a paper before throwing her pen down.
"I'm back." Isadora sighed while sitting at the table. "Our food hasn't come yet? Seriously, do I need to go back there and cook it myself?"
"You're cranky." Maya smiled while picking you her phone. "How's med school treating you?"
Isadora rolled her eyes. "I want to jump off a bridge. I've never been so challenged in my whole learning career."
"Ah, I forgot you were a genius." Maya chuckled. "If it makes you feel better, I have no idea what I'm doing with my life."
"It doesn't, but thank you." Isa smiled.
Maya's phone buzzed and she picked it up.
"Someone calling?"
"No, it's an email." She scrunched her eyebrows. "I don't get emails from people, I only get them from shoe brands and clothing stores."
"Well, is it from a shoe brand or clothing store?"
"No, omg Isa. Some record labels got ahold of my music. They want to have a meeting with me." Maya squealed.
"No way!" Isadora exclaimed. "Respond now! Hurry up!"
"Okay! Okay!" Maya chuckled while quickly typing on her phone. "Done."
"Hey, what's their name?" Isadora pulled out her phone. "I need to do a little digging before I allow my little Maya to go any further."
"Big City records." Maya yawned and placed down her phone.
Isadora typed on her phone before clearing her throat. "Your father is signed to them."
"Oh, you don't think he got me this meeting do you?" Maya rolled her eyes.
"Is that a bad thing?" Isadora questioned. "I mean I'm all about hard work, but sometimes you have to take the shortcut."
"Yes it's bad, let's say if I did become some pop star, I would only be known as the girl who's famous because of her dad." Maya scoffed.
"I doubt that."
"I'm thinking too much." Maya shook her head.
"Way too much." Isadora nodded. "You're talented Maya and you know this. If anybody doubts you, you have the evidence to prove it."
"Thanks, Isa." Maya gave her a small smile. "So, wedding plans? It's been three months since he proposed."
"My mom hired a wedding planner, so she's handling it." She shrugged. "I really thought Lucas proposed to you."
"Yeah, no. I'm so not ready to get married. Maybe a couple of years from now. I just don't know who I am and what I want to do yet."
"Well, now that you're gonna be a pop star, why not think about it?" Isadora questioned.
"Because I'm just not ready or sure yet. And, let's not jump the gun Isa, I'm only going to a meeting."
"Wait, you're not having doubts about you and Lucas?" She furrowed her eyebrows.
"Yes and no. I see a future with him, but that future is a dream. We've still had issues to work out and before I think about us spending forever together, we need these problems to go away."
"What problems?"
"We just...have bad communication. We don't listen to each other. I thought that the night when we went to dinner, that everything was sorted out, but now issues continue to rise." Maya shrugged.
"I won't say talk it out, because obviously, that doesn't work. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have no advice."
"Maybe I need to see my therapist again." Maya sighed.
Her phone buzzed and she quickly picked it up.
"It's them! They're able to meet me tomorrow at ten in the morning." Maya smiled.
"No way! Maya, I'm so proud of you! Do you have to bring in something? Maybe a song."
"No." Maya shook her head. "They're already talking about contract negotiations. Okay, my father must be behind this."
"Maya." Isadora groaned.

Maya nervously shook her leg as she waited outside of the office. She was nervous and didn't know why.
"Nervous?" The dark-haired girl questioned.
"You can tell?" Maya chuckled while letting out a sigh. "Very nervous."
"I was like that. My first meeting, I unexpectedly had to sing in front of them. They do it as a test, so sh...don't tell them I gave away their secret." She chuckled.
"Thank you." Maya smiled. "What's your genre?"
"I don't have one. I like to make music all over the spectrum." She nodded.
"I think I just fell in love with you." Maya joked while crossing her legs.
"Oh, excuse me, where are my manners? I'm Aisha." She reached out her hands
"I'm Maya, an artist hoping to be signed here." Maya shook her hand.
"Hey, when you get signed, let's grab a coffee? It's always good to make a friend in this industry." Aisha said while standing up.
"Sure." Maya nodded.
"I'm hoping to catch you around? My meeting just got canceled."
"Let's hope."
"Maya Hart?" The bored man questioned while watching the blonde stand up from her seat.
"Me!"She perked up.
He walked back into the office with Maya following behind. There sat on the desk a pile of papers and a pen.
"Maya Hart! I'm the one who emailed you." The grey-haired woman smiled as she stood up.
Maya smiled. "Thank you so much."
"I know it was random, but I visited Clancy's one night and you sung there. I just knew ever since then, I had to sign you." She chuckled.
"I'm honored. Truly honored." Maya smiled.
"So, before I sign you Hart, tell me. Who are you? What is your artistry?" She questioned while sitting in her chair.
Maya remained quiet while trying to find the answer. "If I'm being honest ma'am, I'm not sure."
"Hm?"
"I've been on the search of myself for the longest." Maya chuckled. "I guess my artistry is just me trying to figure out me."
She nodded. "You will discover yourself because I will warn you. This business will put you through so many life tests. It exposes people to your life. It the key."
Maya mentally rolled her eyes at how dramatic the woman was talking. She stared down at the piece of paper skimming her eyes over it.
"You're one signature away to the key of your life."
